Yep. Typically these were used by mounted soldiers, but some divisions like engineers, Farriers, cannoneers kept them them in cases as well. The foot soldier carried them shoulder slung or attached to their field packs.
The bottom case is extremely stiff leather and is for the STG57, or PE57
