Switching from Athlon ares to Mk5

I am looking to upgrade my current ares 4.5-30 to either the mk5 5-25 or the 7-35 or anything in that same price range. I am curious if anyone has made a similar switch and experienced a noticeable improvement.

IMHO I would go with an Athlon Cronus 4.5-29x56mm (Japanese made) before I would pay a penny for any Leupold. Charging for Illumination is both stupid and crazy. But Leupold counts on their old time brand loyalty overcoming today's good common sense.
