I looked at the specs for the Badger action and I liked what I saw. I am thinking short action, probably 7wsm (not sure on that, yet). But definitely short action. I like the 60 degree throw and the fact they can take AW magazines. Can they take the longer OALs that AW's provide? 7mm WSM in AW magazines, will that work? I am not sure.

Anyone have any experience with building a tactical rifle with Badger action? I am thinking McMillan stock. Not sure about the inletting issues. Am thinking a Jewell or Timney trigger. Any other issues I should be thinking about.

Re: Tactical build with Badger action

McMillan can definitely do the stock.

I would give Badger a call to ask about the WSM stuff

Re: Tactical build with Badger action

AW and AICS mags will have to be modified to fit a WSM case. Not sure on the feeding from a AW mag, but the AICS mags is tried and true. The AW mag is too wide to hold a WSM case, I'm not even sure if it will even feed correctly as I haven't see anyone on the Hide use it yet. The AICS mags will have to be widened to feed.

Re: Tactical build with Badger action

It should. The opening of the action is the same size as the opening of the Badger M5 or any other DBM that accepts AI mags.

They are made about a mile from my shop. The machinists making them are a couple of really good guys.

I think you'll do well with one. There's a bit of a trick to the fire control though. More than one gunsmith has been left scratching his head over it. Be a good idea to ensure your gunsmith is familiar with them.

Good luck.

I have one of the SnipersHide Valkyries built with Manners T4A stock and Badger action in .260 Rem. It uses AW mags. I love the action, has always worked for me. In .260 I am running about 2.86 OAL give or take a few thousandths. I measure off ogive, using 139 gr Lapua Scenars. This is about a .002 jump off the lands. I have shot this in a quite a few matches with zero problems. I put a Huber trigger in it about a month ago and it installed just fine.

Chad, what kind of trick are you talking about? I know you can take apart the firing pin/bolt shroud assembly from the bolt body with relative ease just by turning the bolt the opposite way. There is one screw holding on the firing pin from screwing off. About the only thing I would like is a little weaker spring as the one in the factory M2008 is stiff as hell and makes it a little hard to lift the bolt after it's be fired. Probably something like your firing pin assembly.

Re: Tactical build with Badger action

Have M2008 builds in 308, 7MM08 and 6.5CM. All have functioned perfectly. I am currently using Alpha/Morta mag for 7MM08 so it can be loaded to a longer OAL but thinking serious about having it converted to AW mags. The 308 is set up for AW mags. AW mags can handle longer OAL than standard AICS. All of my M2008 builds are in AICS stocks. Also, triggers used range anywhere from factory Remington to Jewell and all are working great. The only disadvantage to the M2008 I see is that is much heavier than the R700 and clones.
APA built one gun and GAP the other two.
