i read on a post that if you put a tacstar 6 shot side saddle shell holder you have to modify the foregrip on a remington 870 is this true and would i have to modify it if i put a mesa tactical 6 shot holder on there, any help would be nice since i cant get any of this info from the companys. thanks

Re: tactical shotgun

I am not sure about the Tac Star, but am sure about the Mesa Tactical. You DO need a shorter forearm. I would assume that Tac Star requires one as well, because their six shot side saddle would have a similar length to the Mesa.

Re: tactical shotgun

Yes, you do.

On the non-tactical 870's the forend extends over the receiver when the action is fully open. This portion needs to be cut off in order for it to function.

This should be done anyway because it facilitates unloading. (no you don't just jack them through the chamber.)

If you are going "tactical" on it, then a Hogue forend will solve the problem. I have the "youth" stock set on my patrol shotgun. It's the perfect length of pull for body armor.

Re: tactical shotgun

i luv the original stock but i would only replace it with a plastic one same length, what about the surefire light foregrip would that work or would that need to be cut down as well

Re: tactical shotgun

i think what i am going to do is buy a plastic one like in the link above and if it needs cut down then i guess i will till i find a good deal on a surefire forend

Actually, you would still have to cut the fore end back. The sporting fore ends come back over the front edge of the receiver. Even with the velcro 3 Gun Gear model the frontmost round is at the front edge of the receiver.

Re: tactical shotgun

SF railed forearm does NOT need to be cut to use a MESA 6 shell saddle but it WILL need to be cut to use the 8 Shell.

Trimming the SF is by far the easiest as its just a matter of hacking off 1 section of the pic rail on all three sides. Touch up with some alumablack and call it done.

Re: tactical shotgun

ok im just checking cause im wanting a mesa 6 shot side saddle but dont really want to cut in to my forend stock and i plan on getting a sf light stock for up front in the near future

Re: tactical shotgun

Oh hold up I was refering to the SF picatinny railed forearm. If you are talking about the forearm with the light and pressure pad built in then I dont think it will fit w/o trimming for the 6 shot saddle.

I run the railled forend and an insight Proceyon light that I can attach to any railed weapon, personaly I prefer this to a dedicated light for each. YMMV

Re: tactical shotgun

Unless SF has changed something the weaponlight and sidesaddle should work. I've run several of them. At least the 6 round versions, I don't know about the larger ones.
