First off, I know about the barrel life, I will only be shooting about 100rnds a year if that, because of work, and it will be used for groundhogs at very long range, so the barrel will last me years, and I can always buy another barrel. I have a place I shoot up to 1500yds easy. I dont care about cost of brass, powder etc... The only other thing I can think of is a 264 win mag I might want to build. I have a tuned up Mag L/A and a 6.5 Rock barrel just waiting. let me know. You guys are Super Duper Smart here so let me know, I value your advice

OK. Let me give this a shot.

Do not build a really flat shooting rifle, with awesome ballistics, that almost nobody else has.

There. Did I talk you out of it?

Re: Talk me out of a 6.5 STW

100 rounds a year that would be around 6 years of use. That is 5 years more than a 308 bbl last me. That bbl should get 600 to 700 rounds of life i know because i have owned more than 1 of them. I say get it just dont USE IT FOR TARGET SHOOTING dont shoot long strings with it and get a lot of H-1000 or RL- 25 powder. Also what twist is it

the .264 WM can be pretty wicked.

Re: Talk me out of a 6.5 STW

At the risk of sounding dumb I have to ask though. The life of the barrel would be only around 100 rounds? Is the caliber that hard on the barrel? What causes it to be so hard on the barrel?

Maybe you miss all of what i posted

Re: Talk me out of a 6.5 STW

FWIW my 264WM lasted a shade over 600 rounds. Thats from a new tube to a throat looking like alligator skin. Chasing the throat every 50ish rounds. While the 142SMK @3200+ FPS was a fucking laser, I cant reccomend it. Look 7mmRM or 7WSM and enjoy life.
