i picked up a mausingfield action with a 7-08 barrel on it set up for Lapua brass and the 162 amax. I was wondering which powder will get me the most velocity and temp stability. Thinking of running this for matches when my 243 barrel is smoked . I don't think I'll have to worry about anyone else running one for my brass pick up I'm brand new to this caliber.

I imagine something along the lines of varget or a 4350 would be a decent choice for powder. Reloader 16 as well for a bit more velocity if I were a betting man. Basically all the powders everyone wants lol.

4k seems like a reasonable expectation?

seems like an unpopular gem. I have to RL17 as well.

H 4350 ! seems to be the most temp stable and gives good velocity , I'm planning a re-barrel in 7mm SAW when my SPR starts going south . Given the barrel life of the round I may even opt for a Proof Research Carbon barrel if finances allow it !

I'd seriously think over 3k. I don't think, and have never heard of the 7MM-08 being a barrel burner. It's not a big over bore issue. Keep the velocity reasonable, and take advantage of the incredible BC's that the 28 caliber has. I think the 7MM-08 is far too often overlooked. My grandfather hunted with one for a very long time. Took everything from hogs/Western mule deer/elk etc. Never thought he was under gunned. The BC's of the 28 cal are some of the very best.

Rate of fire kills barrels more than any other factor , if you need to run a hot barrel you will reduce barrel life regardless of cartridge . That being said over bore cartridges have a shorter life span than non over bore choices unless you need to fire long strings of sustained fire then all bets are off !
For non competition 4K should be easily attainable .

I run 2208 (Varget) in my 7mm08 with 162 ELD match. It's a factory Tikka Varmint and the current round count is 4500.
It still groups great but velocity has lost about 100fps. Going in for a rebarrel next week.
