Anyone out there that know how to tan out hides? I'm looking for someone that can tell me how to do a mount with the skull in and the hide draped down off the skull. It will hang on the wall by the skull and drape down.

Re: Tanning hides

I have used this: http://www.minntrapprod.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=221&products_id=1087

When finished you will have a stiff indian style tan, but then you work it over a board or tight rope to break it down until it is soft. I have done a deer hide and some coons and fox with it for the kids and it isn't real complicated. If you are not wanting that soft feeling, but want it stiff you can used Boraz and soak the hide and let it dry. That is what alot of taxidermist used to use a long time ago I am not sure if the still do. Google it and you might find some better directions.
