I have seen a few rifles that appear to have some sort of tape (camo or otherwise) on the scope tube body... what is the purpose of this?? Avoiding ring marks???

yeah that looks like what I saw. Is it just a tacticool camo option? I suppose it beats Kryloning a expensive scope...

Taping and ragging up their rifles is big with the UK boys, as the queen frowns on them krylon'ing her rifles.....

I heard it was illegal to discharge aerosol cans in the UK... maybe that is where the demand for camo tape came from?

Yeah, it's easier to apply than krylon and maybe a little cheaper in the long run but I've actually taken it off just about everything I put it on. I originally did it so that I wouldn't have a black scope on a FDE/Green rifle but now I just don't care. I took it off the scope and the PRS tripod that I have because it had a funky, tacky feel to it that I didn't like. It's a good product though and it has it's applications, I wish I had that stuff when I was in Afghanistan. Our PSG was a SWAT sniper for a metropolitan police department so he had a strong aversion to painting the rifles. It was the stupidest thing ever to be walking around with black M24's while everything around you was tan, brown, light green, etc...oh yeah we blend. This stuff would've been a Godsend in Desert Digital.
