howdy folks! I should be starting a budget 7mm rem mag build soon. I'm stuck between a rem 783 or tc compass for the barreled action, leaning towards the compass. The hitch is i can't find bottom metal (let alone AICS). Would it be possible to put a a different rifles bottom metal in with some tinkering? Could i get something custom?

"Custom" and "budget" tend to be mutually exclusive concepts. Just sayin'.
MDT makes a budget chassis for the 783 that takes care of you bottom metal problem. Also the 783 action is smoother than the compass and has a way better trigger.

I know of the mdt chassis, but I'll still end up about 40 dollars cheaper with a Boyd's pro varmint+PTG bottom metal (pacific gauge and tool, takes AICS mags)

The MDT is gonna be worth the extra $40. You also have the benefit of not having to deal with PTG.
I have a couple pro varmints on some beater guns. You get what you pay for. I didn't pay much.
