Ok fellas. I have been using Varget and 75gr Vmax in my AR.243WSSM for a year now and its great (.4 MOA consistent), but I was somewhat concerned in the bullet size for hunting big game (white tail and mule deer) past 300.
I decided to test some 105 Bergers with RL17 to see what they could achieve since some had voiced concerns with the bullet being to long and skinny for proper seating.

    Here were the results.
    ......
No adjustments were made to the scope during any of the tests. I cleaned the barrel GOOD prior to all testing and then shot 10 rounds of factory ammo to foul before I started. All shots were taken using YHM Phantom Sound Suppressor as well.

OAL 2.463 (way to long for the mags) w 105 HuntingVDLs and 42.8 of RL17

    OAL 2.250 w 105 HuntingVDLs and 41.8 of RL17 (2nd shot missed the 15"x18" box)

    OAL 2.250 w 105 HuntingVDLs and 40.8 of RL17 (3rd shot 1" right of the label)

    OAL 2.250 w 105 HuntingVDLs and 39.8 of RL17 (2 and 3 were 1/2 off paper and touching)

OAL 2.250 w 75VMAX and 35.7 of Varget (max safe mag length) Large group
OAL 2.165 w 75VMAX and 35.7 of Varget (original .4 MOA loads) tight group
this OAL 2.165 w 37.5 of Varget is what I have been using and what I have been averaging since I got it. Looks like I will have to stick with this for now and try maybe the 105 AMAX next time. Bergers aint gonna cut it. My dad might be able to use them in his 6mm Remington but they are a NO GO for me.

    c-bass16,

If you have a 10 twist barrel like most 243wssm's then 105amax would be a better choice.Berger 105gr vld's are designed for 8 twist barrels. They didn't shoot well in mine either but the 95gr Berger vld did OK.

My 243wssm AR was way more accurate with some brass prep and weight sorting.

mine is 1:9 so they told me...i should actually get it checked.
I tried the amax as well but same issue.

I just get frustrated being able to shoot .8 groups at 200 without much brass prep at all.

This spring i will be doing some more tests with different bullets to try and find my big game load. the 75's work, but i still want a heavier higher bc hunting round.
