I know I've read threads on here before about texturing your own stocks and I had a few unanswered questions. I read a couple forums about people using a ziplock bag to add texture, but I wasn't sure what or how the ziplock method worked. Also I noticed most people were using marine-tex or Devcon, but I didn't know if anyone has used score-high bedding compound? I noticed that devcon is called "steel bedding compound" and score-high bedding compound was called "glass bedding compound" and I honestly didn't know if there was a difference. If anyone could throw any input in or send me a link that explains everything more, that would be great.

thanks

Depends on the "size" of the stock, how thick you put it on, and how agressive a texture you want. I tend to over mix so I know I won't run out in the middle of it....big deal, it's only money.

With Marine Tex, which is what I use, you sorta need to move your ass and stopping to mix more risks a fubar....

Use Steel Bed or Devcon.

Re: texturing your stock

I never knew how people done the texturizing thing. But I bet you could use rattle can undercoating. It comes out with a almost like bedliner texture just make sure and tape off everything you don`t want it on.And if you are going to paint over it make sure and use the paintable undercoat.I would scuff a place and prepall or any degreaser and try it on something else first to make sure you like the texture.

Re: texturing your stock

I couldn't bring myself to use my expensive Devcon to texture my stock, so I went out and bought PC-7.

It turned out way better than I had hoped, and I just used a tongue depressor to slap the compound, and bring up spikes, which I knocked down with a file after it dried.
