I had Randy at R&D lop 6 inches off my CMP 40x and bed to an A-5. I was a bit nervous because I have heard about guys cutting the tight spot out of the barrel and ruining accuracy. Randy did a flawless job on the crown and bedding. Balance is perfect and shoots better than ever. Thanks Randy.

Re: Thanks Randy (R&D)

Yeah I was afraid it would ruin the accuracy of my 40-x when I had 8" taken off of mine. It definitely made the rifle handier but the rifle is still HEAVY for shooting offhand. However the rifle still did not go 100% back to the accuracy before the cut. I am thinking now that I should have had one of my other 40-x cut...

Re: Thanks Randy (R&D)

Instead of cutting it at a predetermined length, can a 'smith slug the barrel to find the (hopefully) tight spots BEFORE it is cut?

It might end up 21"or 19" but atleast it would be at a tight spot.

Your rig is NICE!

Keith: There are a few guys around that can slug a barrel, but I could not find one anywhere close to me.

I don't know whether the bores are intentionally tapered, but from what I have read, they do tend to be tighter toward the muzzle.
