Movie Theater "The Company You Keep," or, why are so many of Hollywood's elite leftists?

This is bothering me. A lot. Risking posting what may be seen as a "political" post and get me knocked off the board for a few days or permanently.

I'm posting this in the spirit of prior discussions about who we, as citizens, civil rights activists, gun owners, support with our hard-earned money. People who work just as diligently - often behind the scenes - in undermining our rights to keep and bear arms among others. It's HARD knowing who these people are except so many of them "come out" supporting "gun control" like Bradley Cooper supporting Joe Biden's anti-gun activities "he's a master" he said, Cooper about to make a movie about Chris Kyle's "American Sniper."

Do we REALLY want to support Spielberg (who owns one of the country's largest private class II gun collections - I know several SOT/CL2 FFLs, been to the creek a couple times, etc.), and others who would if they could take our guns, shut down this kind of board, all the while having their OWN private armed security? For the children, you know?

So Redford makes a movie glorifying the Weather Underground. In the words of The Daily Kos, it is a "complex and nuanced" story.

Search the innerwebs for "Redford AND weather underground," and look at the praise coming from the left (Daily Kos for one) about this film, how sympathetically it portrays the group and their activities.

Then search "Weather Underground" to find who these people are NOW, what universities they hold chairs in and their relationships with political figures at the highest levels today.

Bill Ayers - "just a guy in my neighborhood" per Pres. Obeyme, but in actuality they were good friends at Columbia and worked on the Joyce Foundation board [Joyce Foundation funds anti second amendment work among other things] in Chicago - was asked this past week if he saw similarities between HIS blowing up shit and killing people and the muslim terrorists in Boston. Nope, no relationship, totally different thing. His blowing up police and citizens was justified because, well, the government was oppressive. Or he wasn't allowed to share his feelings as a child growing up in the fifties, or something...

Here is upcoming author/journalist (of sorts) Jason Mattera asking the hard questions of Redford:

My comments (elsewhere on FB, Breitbart, elsewhere):

Ever wonder why so many actors are communists?

Under communism, the politically connected ALWAYS have: food, shoes, cars, gas, homes, protection, dachas - country homes - so long as they toe the party line. It doesn't surprise me at all that Hollywood's elite are communists. Actors have no talents other than to pretend to be other people. They generally don't build things, don't study the hard sciences, they aren't the kids in your class who stayed up late preparing notes, reading the material, ready to discuss things in class in depth or use data to creatively think or construct practical models of anything, in short, they are leaches, dependent upon the people who throw them crumbs for performing, like circus seals, chimps, or other, lesser, beings. Many of them struggle for years to "perfect their craft" (i.e. - fool others very effectively in believing the person you are seeing is someone other than who they are and they truly give a sh** about what they're emoting), starving *artistes* of the lowest order, making casting calls, working long and hard and odd hours waiting tables, sucking um, "up" the corporate showbiz ladder and they truly know what side their bread is buttered on. So they continue performing for the most powerful directors, producers, and who is more powerful than politicians and bankster gangsters money market manipulators than George Soros and his puppet Pres. Obeyme? We, The People. "ACTING." For when being real isn't possible.

I think the prism you look at the world through is a bit skewed.

Without writing a novel, what I'm trying to say is that if your ideological view is so far to one side, even people halfway along the spectrum appear to be completely on the other end. It's where Confirmation Bias rules and the actual truth gets lost or ultimately doesn't matter when emotion is behind the wheel. I bet if you actually spent time with people who make movies you would see that their ideological composition is not unlike the military: just like the rest of the country. I've known people who swear Glenn Beck will save America, others who still think Bush/Cheney planned 9/11, but the vast majority are pretty middle of the road people. They aren't the bogeymen you think they are, out to take your guns or prevent you from praying every five seconds.

Yep. Whose isn't?

For me, the turnaround wasn't seeing Dachau, or Bergen-Belsen or the other little camps in Bavaria, it wasn't hearing from my grandparents about the horrors of the starving time in Ukraine (aka Holdomor), it was going back to Cambodia a SECOND time, being involved in MIA-POW recovery missions and spending time at Tuol Sleng and the Killing Fields with the forensics team and translators (JTF-FA 1992 & 1993).

IF Hollywood produced movies about the horrors of the red uprising, the truth about the mass murderer Dr. Ernesto "Che" Guevarra instead of the motorcycle diary movies (not one, but TWO), made a movie or two about the horrors going on as we speak in the Lao Gai slave labor camps in China, the way Mao "took care of" people with STDs and drug addictions (one patient, one bullet) after the revolution, IF Hollywood made ANYthing but movies about gun-owning right-wing NAZI bogeymen, I might have a slightly more moderate viewpoint, but they don't, it doesn't.

For all of Hollywood, for decades now, THEIR "prism they look at the world through" is a LOT skewed. To the dark side.

We had those during WW2 - they were called propaganda films and they were produced by the government. Hollywood is a business that makes products.

Normbal,
I tend to agree with your viewpoint, and it's a bit laughable that any would even try to deny Hollywood's leftist bias. As for no one trying to take our guns or otherwise restrict our freedoms, we need search no further than the comments and actions of many of our own politicians. I live in Missouri, generally a rather red state (with the painfully obvious exceptions of KC and St. Loius), and just recently we had several democratic state reps introduce legislation to ban "assault rifles" criminalize their possession and confiscate those currently in private hands. Yes, confiscate. This, in a gun-friendly heartland state. I've seen the same things in CA (where I used to live, and where such idiocy doesn't surprise me), NY, NJ and MA among others. With so many of Hollywood's leftist, elitist, Socialist or outright Communist actors pleading for political change in that direction, I have often asked myself the same question; why should I help them do this with my money?

This is supposed to be a movie thread, so I'll throw one out that every American should see if only to be reminded of the freedoms that we often take so completely for granted. It's a view into a true totalitarian state. Not Sci-Fi, or some imaginary world described by Ayn Rand, but one in which a good many close friends of mine lived and grew up in; The DDR, East Germany of the 1980's. The film is called "The Lives of Others," and it centers on a Stasi (State Secret Police) officer ordered to do a surveilance on a well known writer. Imagine needing a special license to buy or posses a typewriter, and having to have a typed exemplar from that typewriter on file with the Stasi for forensic comparison, should any "questionable" or subversive writings turn up at a future time. And imagine having a scent sample kept on file should you ever be questioned, for the dogs in case they need to track you in the future. This was an accurate description of the methods and practices of the Stasi, in the very recent past, and was the daily lives of many friends of mine. Contrast that with Jane Fonda telling students that "if you knew what Communism truly was, you'd get down on your knees and pray for Communism every day." I'll leave you to consider the idiotic irony of her words . . ..
