The movie is pretty good, and exactly what you think it will be. Good action scenes, decent acting, and a fresh take on Roman civilization on the borders of the empire. Definitely worth your cash.

Re: The Eagle

One of the best aspects of this movie is that you can take your wife, kids, or older grandkids. There isn't the gratuitous sex or violence that often accompanies movies in this genre.

The movie is more fiction than fact, but frankly I like the story and couldn't care less whether it really happened. Here's the Wikipedia link to the IX Hispana Legion. Admittedly, I'm a sucker for Roman history.

I too am glad to hear it's a decent flick. I'm a sucker for Roman history also. One of the many items on my bucket list is to walk Hadrian's Wall in England. Hopefully in the next couple years or so.

Re: The Eagle

This is definitely a period piece. You won't see any crazy ass monsters. You will, however, get an stylized look at the Scottish highlanders and Celtic lowland tribes. That was one of the more interesting parts for me. One of the tribes they talked about was definitely real: the Brigantes. I don't know about a few of the others.

That is good to hear. Will look for it on DVD. So many films nowadays are ruined with these science fiction themes, added to what we hope would be an accurate portrayal, that could/may have become a classic.

From reading a few books and viewing artwork, the tattoos and what clothing Celtic Warrior Princess wore to battle was interesting. IIRC these were some of the most fiercest, terrifying and suicidal tribes Rome faced. Should make for some fine action. Thank you

Re: The Eagle

A complete waste of time. Predictable and uninspired plot, lackluster acting, zero interesting characters and only the occasional (and apparently accidental) historically accurate detail.
