The Everyday Sniper Podcast: Big Jim Fish: $2k Optics Talk

Big Jim Fischer is back on the Everyday Sniper Podcast to talking the Mid Range $2k Optics he has reviewed. Big Jim does some of the most detailed optics reviews on the Internet. His attention to detail is second to none in this area.

$2000 optics are some of the most common scopes we see in class and on the line at competitions. This mid range is where the majority of optics fall. Not quite Tier One based on the price point, but some creep into Tier One with the features.

A few of the optics we are discussing include:

    • Leupold Mk5 HD
    • Sightron S6
    • Bushnell Elite XRS
    • Minox ZP5
    • Zero Compromise Optics 4-20x
    • Zeiss S3
Jim always brings the details and will give you both the Pros and Cons to each scope he is looking at. Maybe it's Spline Slop he brings up, or High Magnification distortion on the edges. There is a bunch of points to look at with each scope.

Jim's reviews can be found on the main page of Sniper's Hide. They are easily seen in the blog section.

Thanks for listening to the Everyday Sniper Podcast. Thanks for sharing the EDS Podcast, and thanks for being a part of the discussion.

I was really surprised that the Sightron ended up being a turd.
Their glass and mechanical elements are typically very good, they just never seem to give the target customers everything they want.

I was the student behind the Mark5 for the class in discussion. It was mounted on a Sako TRG-22 in .308, I don't have the trained eyes that Frank has but the scope/rifle shot great for me. I was able to walk it out to 1000y and hit a clay pigeon on the berm at 1018yards. I ended up buying another Mark5 5-25 and putting it on a 6.5cm Bergara HMR Pro and have loved it. Im sure as I continue to grow as a shooter I will learn the finer details and move up into the upper top tier glass, but for a newer shooter this scope has treated me well.

I haven’t listened to the podcast yet. Was ZCO 420 just added for reference? Obviously not a $2K optic.
