Many noobies come to the Hide and are instantly humbled by the incredible marksmanship and awesome equipment owned by the many veterans of the Board. Their problem is that they don’t know the rules of the Hide. I have put together a few rules to help noobies when crafting posts to insure they don’t make fools of themselves.

Rifles
1. All rifles shoot half MOA or better “when I do my part.”
2. The one group from a rifle that I post is an average group. I did not stop to photograph the better groups. I must have been in a hurry.
3. That flier is a “documented” cold clean bore shot. That other flier is a “called flier” (see how it says it right there on the target).
4. Wind is always 15 – 25 mph and full value when shooting groups. Documented.
5. Group MOA never increases over distance. Half MOA at 1,000 yards is easily achievable.
6. That caliber gave me 12,000 rounds of accurate barrel life
7. That caliber will give you 2,000 rounds of accurate barrel life… if you are lucky

Pistols
1. Top 6 reasons my pistol failed:
45% my pistol has never malfunctioned, it was designed by Gaston Glock
42% my pistol has never malfunctioned, it was designed by John Moses Browning
6% Bad ammo
4% Limp wristing
2% Other user error
1% Pistol malfunctioned because that is what they do when you use them enough
2. Top 8 reasons your pistol failed:
45% You own a 1911
22% You own a 1911 made by the company that did not make my 1911 (too tight/too loose)
16% You own a Glock
4% Your magazine is a POS
3% Not enough lube
3% Too much lube
3% Limp wristing
2% Other user error

Scopes
1. Your scope is comparable to a Counter-Sniper.
2. My $3,000 scope has clearer glass, fewer failures, and is more durable than the $3,000 scope made any other scope manufacturer.
3. Glass is always “clear as crystal” or “like looking through a dirty fish bowl” depending on whether I own it.
4. Turrets either show “mushy clicks” or “feel like a Swiss watch” depending on whether I own it.
5. Rangefinders are great at determining range to important targets such as water towers.

Handloading
1. My handload delivers 200 fps over max book value of every known reloading manual. With no pressure signs.
2. Runout is always less than .001”.
3. I get at least 25 reloads out of my brass.
4. During load development, the smallest group you shot is what the load now is “on average.” No need for confirmation groups.
5. Turning necks, annealing, primer pocket uniforming are either the most critical steps in reloading or a total waste of time.

Hunting
1. SMK’s either a) pencil straight through rabbits and ‘yotes or b) will cut black bears and elk in half at 500 yards depending on who is posting.
2. All game is engaged at 600 – 1,000 yards regardless of whether the caliber in question has the takedown power let alone the accuracy to take animals at that range.
3. Barnes bullets will kill, gut, skin, butcher, and parbake my game.

Rimfire
1. I get half MOA at 100 yards “all day long.”

For Sale Section
1. Documented round count is approximately one third of actual round count. There are more “undocumented”s on the Hide than in the whole state of Texas.
2. I bought this rifle completely custom made, waited a year to get it, and now I am selling it after one range trip because I love the way it shoots.

Marksmanship
1. Nobody ever posts in the marksmanship section unless it is to teach other shooters. After all, the average visitor to the Hide puts 10,000+ rounds a year downrange and knows everything there is to know about shooting.

"Custom" - I bought an aftermarket stock and some Krylon.

Fuck you. Just because. But no hard feelings. LOL

That's just rifle A.D.D., and it is too a real condition, because Papagallos told me so!

For the new members that want to pad their post count they can just use this as a guide. Mix & match as needed. Insert into appropriate thread and you can be selling your junk tomorrow.

Bear Pit
1. I'm right, you're wrong, 'cause fuck you, that's why...
2. 'Merica!
I thought of a couple more...

3. I'm an idiot and got banned, again, for talking politics on the Hide.
4. I have no idea where this question about a Remington 700 belongs, Mods, please move for me.

Maggies
1. Tits because it's the only place on the internet porn can be found.
2. Hold my beer and watch this shit!

clmayfield, awesome post and all too accurate. Hope you don't mind me adding to it.

Now that's funny but I doubt it'll change much as we'll still see lots of outrageous claims daily. But thanks for posting as some of the shit I read, I just shake my head...

This is my favorite,

Is it like one of those old Mad Libs?

"I was at the range, where the target was (insert ungodly distance) away. I took my (insert super custom rifle) that is topped with a (insert $3000 scope) and lined up to take the shot. I sent the first round, but I knew it was going to be a flyer because (insert cold bore, clean bore, wind gust, act of God, or other reason that is in no way related to the fundamentals of marksmanship). The next five rounds were right on target and measured (insert half-MOA for given distance). I loved shooting this (insert super custom rifle) so much that it's now up for sale. USPS money order only."

The name's Maggot, as in "Maggot as Fuck", not Maggie. Please spell it right cause Im a bad ass superninjasealsofmofo and I can kill you at 10000 mtrs with my spit. LOLOLOL

Inserting any of the phrases or combination of phrases above is like to end in a result you will be uncomfortable with.

Because the other guy brought up a political subject, and he is completely right/wrong the no politics rule does not apply to my response.

99.9% of the 100,000 board members are either SEAL, Delta force, or Recon snipers, so anything posted should be taken on faith.

Oh, I thought it was spelled G-O-L-D-I-E..... :D

NO, I think your mistaken....LowLight killed Goldie with the Ban Hammer. It was ugly. Closed casket service and burial. Im his new and improved replacement.

Well crap! Not only was I not ever a Seal, Delta Force or ninja, but I have been known to shoot multi-MOA groups. Does that mean I gotta leave?

Great, just GREAT...Now i have to go back and edit all my posts. They are on to me!

from a definitions rant a while back:

i would submit in addition, i would think the proper terminology would be "precision marksman" using a "precision rifle" and not a "sniper" or "sniper rifle" (unless an actual operator / sniper with the proper tabs / certs)

SNIPER - (present definition) a person professionally and highly trained to observe, report findings, or to engage and eliminate specific targets of oppurtunity to gain a tactical advantage uses a wide array of tools to accomplish the assigned tasks, and generally uses a highly modified precision rifle (sniper rifle as it used by a sniper) to eliminate those specified targets, usually from a concealed or unknown position in order not to be comprimised.

sniper -(originally) a person that hunts for and is successful in harvesting the elusive above game bird. usually had to be concealed (by the use of special areas - enter the "hide" - or special clothing - enter the "ghillie suit"- during the shot as snipe have excellent eyesight.

once common in Scotland, a ghillie - or sometimes spelled gillie - (the person them self) was a hired person (a professional hunter / guide that used unconventional tactics for success) used to catch poacher's on the royal's land. they used special clothing to be concealed or hide themselves from view (AKA ghillie suit), from the highly observant and skillful poachers. the poachers that had escaped capture from the ghillie also began to employ the ghillie's suits to remain stealthy as they had to evade detection both from the ghillie and the royalty's normal guardsmen as they poached the royalty's game.

snipe- –noun 1. any of several long-billed game birds of the genera Gallinago (Capella) and Limnocryptes, inhabiting marshy areas, as G. gallinago (common snipe), of Eurasia and North America, having barred and striped white, brown, and black plumage.
2. any of several other long-billed birds, as some sandpipers.

maybe a glossary of terms will help the newbies realize that(at least in my opinion) a definition of a "build" worth reading:

BUILD (noun or verb depending on usage)- A weapon, sporting arm, rifle, pistol, shotgun etc. (project) that has substaintial components added or enhanced that operate and are engineered in conjuncture with each other for the intended purpose of launching a projectile downrange and hitting a designated target with more consistency / accuracy than a factory manufactured weapon, sporting arm, rifle, pistol shotgun etc., or exceeds the average accepted performance metrics of a factory manufactured weapon, sporting arm, rifle, pistol, shotgun, etc. or at a higher rate of speed in cycling rounds + accuracy than a factory manufactured weapon, sporting arm, rifle, pistol shotgun etc.
(in my opinion a build starts with a bare receiver or frame, then specialized components are added to achieve the above directives, and to achieve the below)....

LONG RANGE SHOOTING (verb?)- To accurately and consistently hit a target with a projectile at a greater distance than is normally accepted by a majority for the performance parameters of any given weapon, sporting arm, rifle, pistol, shotgun, etc. whether it is "built" or not.

Example: A .45 cal 1911 pistol used at 10 yards to hit a target accurately and consistently may be considered average distance. A .45 cal 1911 pistol used at 75 yards to hit a target accurately and consistently would probably be considered long range shooting.

A .45 cal 1911 that shoots well at 10 yards, but is not good at all at 75 yards until components are added or enhanced and has acheived the goal of launching a projectile consistently and accurately on a target should be considered a "build" to make a "precision firearm" for the intended purpose of "long range shooting"

(a scoped .308 rifle at 100 yards is almost always considered short range, however an open sighted 30/30 at 100 yards may be considered medium to long range)

PRECISION FIREARM (noun)- A weapon, sporting arm, rifle, pistol, shotgun, etc. that is used for the intended purpose of launching a projectile downrange and hitting a designated target with more consistency / accuracy than a factory manufactured weapon, sporting arm, rifle, pistol shotgun etc., or exceeds the average accepted performance metrics of a factory manufactured weapon, sporting arm, rifle, pistol, shotgun, etc. Most precision firearms are "built" (see build) for objectives described above.

ACCURATE RIFLE (noun)- Any rifle that consistently launches a projectile to a target with better results than what is considered by a majority average parameters for comparable rifles.(MOA and sub MOA)

SNIPER RIFLE (noun)- Any rifle that is used by a S N I P E R, otherwise, it's a precision firearm / rifle.

so technically, in the traditional sense, if you ever shot a snipe, your a sniper. of an "official" sense, if you passed and qualified any military or LE sniper qualification course and graduated sniper school, you are an official sniper that can sew a new tab on your uniform.

otherwise it's just another word that's been bastardized for shock value in various medias or used by someone as an adjective to boost their own ego, or it's meaning has been twisted to the point that it depends on what point of view you are coming from to describe some unique actions taken of someone that has caused a particular event to happen (lee harvey oswald, dc sniper, etc.). a bell tower and a rifle is "good enough evidence" to fit the description.

some define a sniper simply as a person that takes the life of another using unconventional means or from a concealed location - whether or not they can extract successfully or not.

"sniper's shoot people" is only a partial truth as assassins, murderers, and serial killers do the same. while snipers DO POSSESS the skills and ability to neutralize threats effectively in a "scientific" manner, snipers also skillfully and professionally observe and report troop movements, provide security / surveillance details, paint equipment and other targets with laser designators for other types of ordinance to neutralize targets, convey coordinates for direction of artillery and other types of fire - some true designated snipers never having to take a shot on another human in their entire tour - a murderer, serial killer or assassin rarely do the same.

a "game animal" that has been shot from a shooter in a prone position dressed in a straggly burlap outfit from a concealed location that one has inserted themselves into undetected by using a remington 700 with a big scope and a bipod from say, a longer distance that is traditionally shot from - does not a sniper make -perhaps it was just taken "sniper style"; as the movies always depict accurately what a sniper is.

the butcher at the local meat market can't be in the same class as a surgeon, though they both use a form of knife.

The "Rules" at the Hide (to aid n00bz)

This post is hilarious, and true for the most part. Just some constructive criticism though... I have found it funny that some Hide members automatically assume that just because a shooter only recently signed up for a web forum it makes them new to the long range game.

You left off my all time favorite (read: pisses me off to no end): "The SEALs use it."

I hear this shit all the time about ever piece of gear/gun out there and when I hear somebody say "____ is what the SEALs use" I instantly know they are fucking retarded wannabes.

"After reading advice posted by someone with 30 or 40 years of experience, you must wait at least 10 minutes before repeating as your own."

The one I love the most is from a an older guy at work. He keeps telling the Sniper Rifles on Call of Duty are the best ever made. You can do a double forwards flip with a backwards somersault and a cartwheel and kill 42 people with one shot, all head shots.

Fantastic post. Don't forget a couple of my favorites:

1: If upon paying thousands of dollars for a custom rifle and waiting for well over a year for it, it is received with a major functional issue, absolutely positively do NOT post about it. It is your duty to protect the best interest of said gunsmith who clearly has been way too busy over the last 12-18 months to check any of his own work. Please send it back and be patient over the next four to twenty six weeks so the gunsmith can clear his busy schedule and correct the issue that should have never left his shop in the first place. Unless of course the gunsmith in question is not liked by the 'Hide, in which case, it is your duty to post about it.

2: If current market conditions cause the value of an item that you currently own and intend to sell to suddenly jump through the roof, it is your duty as a forum member to ignore the market conditions and all laws of economics, and sell the item at pre increase prices. Ignore the fact that the first person who jumps in with an "I'll take it" is most likely someone you've never met and probably isn't even a contributing member, and that person will most likely profit on your stupidity at another location that follows the laws of economics (IE Gunbroker.) If you ignore this rule and attempt to list this item at current actual value, please be prepared for a whole slew of hate, followed possibly by death threats. On the flip side, after the market insanity finally dies down and you find yourself with a product that due to excessive panic buying is now on a flooded market, do NOT under any circumstances expect the same members who ignored the economy and blasted every person selling items at current value twelve months prior to step up and buy your item at MSRP.

I don't think there's a single comment on this forum that doesn't go against the OP's rules ;)

Lmao great post.

Will work for Ammo

If you're posting about a shotgun don't call it a "shotty/remmy/mossy"

It's not a damn clip it's a magazine

Will work for Ammo

OK, here's a question for the Mods----If I joined in 2005(true), why is my post count only 128??? What happened to the other 1000 or so??

My ops are darker than yours...
I know more because I was in the military for 50+ years and therefor it now makes me an armorer/sniper...
If it's good enough for the Deltaforcereconsealpj's then it must be top tier...
308's fall out of the sky at 799yds...
Even though I literally spend 26hrs a day, every day, posting here on the hide I still shoot thousands of rounds everyday out to 2K+yds...
If I'm 3rd through the door on an entry team clearing a ship and I need a weapon for both CQB and taking shots from several hundred yards out of helicopter, how long of a barrel would you recommend?

The remarks in quotations have become so tired.

Here's another:

"My rifle shoots better than me."

Perhaps, but only "When you do your part."

How about the guys that join and ask all kinds of questions because they're new to relaoding and 6 months later they're answering all the questions like they invented the process?

Hahaha thanks for the heads up on the forum to a new guy... Sarcasm is one of my favorite forms of humor. I got my sense of humor in the Marines - when I was a Force Recon operator as a Lance Coolie before I tabbed in with the Rangers. Now I just spend my free time (in between my secret deployments with MARSOC) posting on gun forums.

Errrrrrr
