This was in the last print edition of FP and they just put it online:
The Social Laboratory
It is hands down the most interesting article I've read in awhile. The shorty story is that a lot of domestic surveillance technologies are being developed/testbenched in Singapore, a country with a very unique culture including a lack of civil liberties but also a lack of a lot of the social ills that plague western societies. It shows what can be accomplished with competent technologies and no inhibitions regarding the collecting and sharing of personal information.
It is also a very rich country (Richest Countries in the World | Zero Hedge, #3) and often used as an example for what happens when engineers and technocrats run things, aiming for data driven and optimal policy making.
People like to talk about how technology is changing the world, and it's just not Iphones and internet forums, and this article is illustrative of what potential futures may look like, both the good and the bad.
As a friendly reminder, please keep any discussion civil and within the norm of this forum's code of conduct.
