Just wanted to bounce my idea around........figured this is a good spot.

Guess the title says a lot. lately I have been bouncing this idea around my head. it is a straight pull bolt action AR15. bolt handle on the left side. the carrier would be modified so as to allow the use of a Ace side folder, not sure what stock yet. Would chop the carrier length to allow this. since the carrier need some tension on it, would put a rod and spring out the front of the upper receiver through the gas port hole and use something like a 1911 spring or something a little longer. think of something ZM weaponish.

I am looking at this for a modified 30 Tok build that will be suppressed and possibly reside on a SBR ar lower. I have been playing with the 30 tok in the AR platform (blow back) for about 8 years now and this year just build a none blow back AR in the same caliber. I am starting to work on it to see if I can get it functioning with subsonic loads.....but the idea of doing the AR sounds interesting. Have a custom reamer made to allow the heavier 308 projectiles fit a little better (may or may not have to do this, will work more with my newest build first as that reamer may work out).

I know all about the 300 whisper. but I already have brass, reloading dies and other firearms in 30 tok. I am wanting it for subsonic use, so the case capacity will be enough.

I have seen the savage done by Dolomite_supafly, and know of his ejection issues. I have seen others do this straight pull setup, but with a right hand handle and that can be a knuckle buster during the racking/ejection process. I already have several side charging ASA receiver builds (308, 223 and 9mm) and like the left side handle. I originally started thinking of the ASA receiver, but think a fixed handle would give more leverage incase of a sticky shell and for the ability to help push the rounds into the chamber.

Just thought this would be a good place to bounce this around. I am also thinking of a suppressor design to go back over the barrel. but will leave that whole discussion for another thread.......but I do plan on having a suppressor on this, I do already have 30cal I can use for now. I have been building ARs for a couple days now (wink), so I am very familiar and comfortable with them. They are probably one of my favorite/preferred platform, maybe that is why this idea is kind of appealing......

Sounds pretty kick ass to me! I am actually in the process of following in dolomite's footsteps on the savage bolt gun in 7.62x25 myself! I got a barrel blank sitting here waiting to go for the project I just haven't gotten to getting it machined up yet, other crap has gotten in the way. I will probably hold off until winter before getting back on the project to be honest..

I do have to admit though the more I see of them the more I would like to have an upper or dedicated AR in the caliber! As far as your ideas go, unfortunately most of what you said went right over my head as I am not knowledgeable really on the AR platform. I have a standard 5.56 AR and other then shooting it I don't know much on the ins and outs of them.. Still would love to have a Tok one though! I can't wait to see how this turns out for you! I will be following along for sure!!

And as a side note would LOVE to see anything you have pics of regarding your previous work, load work up etc etc!!

I have a couple blanks myself just looking for projects

and had planned on doing a savage 7.62x25 build......but......I pretty much already have all the parts needed to move on this project.
