Hey fellas,I'll be(hopfully)working on my first build next year and would appreciate any input somebody might have. Heres what I have in mind so far. 700 action(squared,lapped,etc),7 Rem mag,Shilen select match barrel 1-9 twist, worked over factory trigger, mcmillan A5 stock,Leupold VX3 6.5-20. It will be hunted with, and I would like to have a target weight of around 13-14 pounds with everything on it so I need advice on barrel contour.Nothing so far is set in stone, but I really like the 7mm bullets and Im already set up for 7 rem mag and know its capable, and shilen barrels seem to be good for the money? But Im undecided on stainless or CM.I would like a legitimate 1000 yd gun with the ability to go to 1200-1300 if Im feelin froggy. Anything anybody can add would be appreciated!

Here is directly from Krieger Barrels FAQ's:
Q: Which is better Chrome Moly or Stainless Steel?

A: For the most part neither one is better than the other. The only difference we find is that sometimes the chrome moly might take a little longer to break-in and might have a little more affinity for copper or seems to show it easier. In terms of barrel life and accuracy, we can find no difference.

That is your free answer for the day. That being said, like any major purchase, you won't get much trying to cram all of your build questions into one small post. My suggestion to you is this:

1) Fill out your profile. It lets others know you are at least serious enough to do that, and someone from your area may chime in with some regional advise/considerations.
2) Use the search, browse, and read....99% of the time your questions have been submitted and answered...possibly multiple times
3) Be patient. Builds take time and require a lot of questions...you may find out you are on the wrong track all together.
