all rings will have a gap between the top and bottom ring section

when you tighten them down try and make that spacing even as well

Yes, that is normal. Caps are never tightened down touching the other half.

follow the Hawkins torque specs and do your best to make the gap even on both sides of the ring

yeah and the rings are touching. they shouldn't measure 35mm

Thanks everybody, this is my first set of high end rings so was making sure that this was correct.

Just so I get it right, these WILL fit a 35mm tube like the Mark 5?

Yes. Follow the torque specs. If you do not have an in.lbs torque wrench. Do not proceed. Please get one. Borka makes an excellent set.
