Could be nothing,..could be everything into mind set,...

Hi,

Looks to be from Tor M1...Iranian army is said to have close to 30 of the Tor M1 defense systems.

Some images being circulated says found at crash site while others are saying 2km from crash site.

Ironically that "to go" box resembles the last meal I had on Ukrainian airlines.....I do about 5-6 flights a year on them.

Sincerely,
Theis

Not,... THOSE,... seeker heads
I was kind of being a smart ass (one of my many talents). But since you responded I will admit I am a dumbass when it comes to such things. (I also had to get to a better screen for a better view). Sooo that looks like the "nose" of a rocket. It would make sense that the guidance system is in the nose, but apparently the war "head" is not also.
Is this correct? Time for bed I might have learned something today.

I'd probably be buying lottery tickets too then if I were you, brave soul.

My assumption is that the plane was shot down and it’s possible that the warhead simply didn’t explode. Well the seeker head may or may not have warhead in it, Just about any penetration of the aircraft with an sa15 missile would probably cause catastrophic failure. Usually, the warhead is in the middle of the missle.

the tip of the missile just steers it afaik. The boom is mid tube.

Id be interested to know the time line from when hostilities started (Iran missile attacking US base) to passenger airliner being shot down.

Im guessing very close. Rook on dooty notices a blip shortly after attack, launches above warhead, commander smacks him in back of head and disarms. Missile still hits plane. Hostilities die down quickly after realizing they shot their own plane. Quickly find a "3rd party" ahem reprogrammer to "diagnose" the black box. Doop.

Wars a beach.

So did they just not know their missile launch site was under a commercial flight path or just bad timing?
Yes.

my guess is poor training and extreme ineptitude.
My guess is the US military & Trump are living rent free in their Hearts & minds,... an will be for a long time.

Add,.... remember living rent free is so much better than adding to the MIC coffers, plus it keeps others up at night wondering might happen down the road while traveling to see the kids of Grandma,....

And what do we attribute the USS Vincennes incident to?

I was standing duty at the Embassy in Moscow when that happened it caused a stir.

Im still thinking the Vincennes incident was a trap....

Either Iran was playing cute trying to mask a fighter with the Commercial jet or they had the jet sending signals to identify it as something else to gauge the reaction.

We don't allow human vivisection but Iran.....no problem.

Ah Russian/Soviet design..........got to give them some credit while at the same time voicing my disgust......looks like another economically engineered killing machine made for mass production and operation by the common conscript that includes zero concern for crew comfort to operate.
Kinda comes with requirement of system being mobile.

Sure but if its an autoloader that stuffs crew or parts of crew into the breech because the crew man was at the upper limits allowed for the size of crew and the equipment happened to be at the outer spec allowable for its design........that tolerance stacking can be hard on conscripts when you could maybe put a little bit more emphasis on your soldiers perhaps making them more effective in doing their jobs.

Quantity has a certain Quality.

Gives an indication of how unexpected Thursdays strike was.

Im guessing the sound of assholes clamping shut could be heard in the presence of tyrants when the news broke.

Sucks 170 people paid for their understanding that they can be held accountable.

No autoloader on a SAM ,and in armor stuff is driven by rationale in regards to weight ,particulary in tanks ,Russian consider 50 tons about the limit for home front logistics . SAMs systems are generaly bulky as hell. Western equvalents don't realy exist and couple that do are semi mobile or worse mounted on a trailer -and can't realy move with the armored units in combat ,let alone swim or provide balistic and NBC protection to the crews.

TOR is wierd in being vertical launch system , not that common in short range SAMs

In any case ME operators are far from being proficient in many ways, does not mater what you give them .
