Well, last time I checked my 5 dollar bills had Lincoln on them.
Some people see a result, misinterperate or make up a story about how it came to be, and need a figurehead to tie to a glory they don't feel they have now.
What is surprising is that living demigod Putin figures so little in their lore. They need to kick ass in chechnya and rename it Putinstan, just because it sounds funny to westerners.

Stupid Commies! As long as they keep the commie alive they will never amount to anything more than a cold war has been who reverse engineers everyone else's technology or tries to subjugate their border neighbors for resource materials.
