Thread Protector Removal

I've never had a threaded barrel until now so bear with my apparent stupidity.

I just received my Alexander Arms 6.5 Grendel upper with threaded barrel (Shilen if it matters) which comes with a thread protector installed.

How in the balls do I remove it without taking a vise-grip to it and tearin' it up? I assume it has red loc-tite on it which should make removing it a bear, but I'd like to get it off so that I can install a muzzle brake on that bad boy.

Is there some secret?

I was under the impression that simply screwing it on and off would suffice, but I can't even get that sucker to budge.

Thanks.

Heat will break red loctite down, but I can't see them using red for that, blue would be fine if any at all, might just be real tight on the bbl shoulder,or you could use some thick rubber with channel locks after you heat it up.

Don't forget your Wheaties! Remember to clean off the threads on your barrel and your thread protector after each use. It just makes putting on and off the thread protector so much smoother.
