I just figured I'd start a thread where we can compile through the tube pics. I'll be posting quite a few in here and hope others will too. Include as much situational data as you can.
Here are a few from last night. The deer are between 190 yards and 205 yards, as the leaning tree to the right is 214 yards from the fencepost.
All were taken between 2030-2100hrs. Waxing Gibbous moon, but there was 100% cloud cover so you couldn't see it. However, there was about an inch of snow cover, which lit things up more than I would like for taking NV pics, but not so much as if the moon/stars were out.

The white pics are from a Gen2 4x Nemesis. It is probably the hardest unit I have tried to take pics through because it has about 2" eye relief that is pretty specific. The pics are no where near as good as the tubes look in person, which is compounded by the fact that I was holding an iPhone 4s in one hand and the scope in the other.

The green pics are a NYX-14 Pro, gen3 Alpha, no magnification.

I was going to take pics with the CO-LR and USO T-PAL, but decided it wouldn't be wise to hang a rifle out of the truck window in that particular spot. I later wished I would have as I found a coyote at a shade over 300 yards with the thermal.

As soon as the snow melts, if it ever does, Ill go back and get pics of the deer through several units at the same time.

I was hoping you would make a show here and consolidate some of your pics SkyPup! Nice, and thanks.

I've got five ITT Night Enforcers Pinnacle tube PVS-14s and use them all the time with assorted DBAL IR lasers and a dedicated PVS-14-MonoCam setup from MoroVision for NV photos and videos, just have not been using it much lately but will be taking some new hunting videos towards the end of this month.

I've also got an I-Phone 5 PVS-14 adapter, I-Phone 5 ACOG adapter. I-Pad Air ACOG adapter, and FLIR M-18 Recon adapter, as well as day scope adapters. Will try to take some more pics and videos here soon.

These images show how digital magnification in a Thermal degrades as zoom increases. If you really need long distance, a bigger lens is a better idea than relying on digi-zoom, IMO.

ETA - If you want a separate thread for thermal, create it and I will move them over there.

Now we're talking. I will post some up later. That's the first I've ever seen a pic through one of the white tubes. Actually looks pretty sweet. Please get one through the clip on. Make one of these and pics become stupid easy. Eye relief doesn't matter because you can zoom it out or in to control the eye relief.

a person can get very good representative pictures through the tube with an iPhone. I've done it tons.

This thermal image shows the effect of taking the time to get a precise focus. The focus ring on the BHS is very sensitive, you can really dial it in.

Not at all brother, Ill be adding some thermal pics in this thread this week if I can get time and the fortitude to brave the artic Ozark weather.

I have a foot long section of rail that I am going to make a mount out of that will allow me to use a clip on, day scope, and camera in conjunction.

Here is a picture through a Vampire 3x that uses the same CORE tube as the Spark. I couldn't tell you what it was like that night as it was probably 3 months ago. It is no match for gen3, but it's also pretty good for a $749 scope that comes with an illuminator, QD mounts, and finger adjustable turrets.

Nice! Thanks for contributing, I hope to see more. I am stoked about the SH Cup this year....It will be a good time for sure!

Not to hijack the thread but we can upgrade your system to a single battery housing! :) I know the dual battery cartridges break all the time... we have them too if you need them!

Who makes this adapter?

Its this little company called me, myself and I. They use top shelf materials like kydex, schedule 40 PVC pipe, a lathe, some two part epoxy and beer. They don't stock them but make them on Wednesday nights after watching Larry potheadfield on midwayusa's Wednesday night at the range. Thanks for your business!

Like from the pics saved on my computer or a photobucket account?

Just copy it and paste it in the reply box?

I went out again tonight. A lot of the snow melted today, but the moon was still pretty bright with about half cloud cover. Too dark to engage anything without night vision, but fairly bright.

Again, the white ones are the Gen2+ White Phosphor Nemesis 4x. The cows are about 40-45 yards away.

One gen3 reference pic. The edge looks fuzzy on this but it was the way I was holding the camera. It is the same unit I used in the pics above.

Later this week we are supposed to have some cloud cover and warmer weather to melt the snow, so I will get pics through 10 or so different night vision units that will likely be average conditions for most NV users.

Not sure if I could get used to the wp tube but it sure looks good. Reminds you of an over cast winter day rather then night.

All of these were taken with a PVS-14 and an Iphone 4

It does pretty well. You get dealers claiming it is garbage because this or that...You get some manufacturers saying it blows green out of the water. I think both are false. The truth, for me at least, is right in the middle. It comes down to personal preference. I can see some details ever so slightly better with white, and some better with green. I prefer green slightly, but Ive been using green for a long time.

If the white was truly bad, the SOF community wouldn't be using it. If it was truly the most awesome thing ever, all of them would be using it.

I do like the way WP tube shows the dark tree/brush night shade areas better than green .
The pics. shown above with the snow reflecting ambient is like a full moon on steroids though . But the pics. I have seen in the past with WP on no ambient moon and with IR supplement used actually look pretty good in the projected image it makes .

used pvs 14 i picked up off ebay for cheap. looks pretty good to my eye and worth the savings. l3 tube. one blem. starlight only. gen 3 about omni 6 specs.

Agreed. The snow is almost gone so I'll be able to get some more pics over the weekend. I'm photographing some clip-on's next, then I'll try to get to gen3 white and green phosphor in identical units side by side.

I have an Envis mounted behind a Burris 1-4 on my 300BO AR. I might try and get some pics too. I know, not as nice as some of y'alls rigs, but a guy traded me straight up for my ATN gen1 scope...no idea why he wanted a gen1 scope over the Envis mono but wasnt gonna pass it up.

The ENVIS is a good unit...and makes an awesome unit with the micro housing.

micro housing is interesting, I see references to NV depot making them but I cannot find anything on their website about buying a micro housing for an Envis. What all does the micro housing do for the unit? Make it smaller overall, more reliable on/off switch....anything else? I cant see putting in the micro housing for $600 unless the switch actually fails, unless there are other advantages. The unit is small and light as it is....and behind my Burris XTR all I need to do is adjust the eyepiece focus ring almost all the way down (to get the reticle in focus thru the Envis) and its GTG - QD GG&G mount. I love it. Although, I have not had the opportunity to shoot with it at night yet to see if there is any POI shift, which I really need to do.

Delta4-3, any chance of getting a few more of the Vampire? There appears to be some excellent clarity there.

^ that's what I was thinking. That thing looks good!

Anyone got any pics of the pulsar digital stuff? My dad is interested in one but I don't know anything about them.

Ive got two digitals at the house. I think the image is about the same as the Vampire. I would take gen 2 over digi right now, any day of the week. However, I don't think that will be the case in a few years.

I guess in the last ten years playing with thermals I never thought to look at the moon through one. I did last night and was kind of surprised how clear you could see it.

Think I have posted this before but this is a 2 micron image tube (vs. 6 micron tubes found in current 3rd gen tubes) from L3's R&D department. The resolution is high enough that it has to be calculated from the low frequency MTF values. This is one of only a few in commercial or military hands. The camera resolution and the upload compression degrades the image to the point that its not really worth posting but here it is anyway.

Jason,
I'll trade you a PMag and a SCAR-H barrel that's not as worn out as yours for that tube, and whatever it is in.

People want more Vampire C.O.R.E. pics so I took one more. I didn't feel it was fair to take a whole lot as the moon is 99% full with maybe 30% cloud cover. It does not perform near this well on a dark night where Gen3 champs, but it will give you an idea of what it is capable of with a good illuminator. Next week we will be back down to moon/cloud combo's that will stress NV so I will get more pics. I don't want it to come off as me portraying it as something it is not. You can see some edge distortion there, nothing like typical gen1. However, it is not that noticeable when looking through it with the naked eye. Maybe because your eye is focusing on the crosshairs, or maybe it is the iPhone, I know not.

The feeder that the cows are eating out of is 229 yards from the back porch where I am standing. The first tree line behind them is 517 yards.

IULXncb.jpg

I got my USO LR-17 in yesterday and it is phenomenal. I am going to try to build a mount this weekend that will hold it, the CO-LR and other clip ons, and a Canon 7D so I can get you guys some good pics through the clip ons. First up will be the CO-LR. I will do one with the CO-Mini with the USO SR6 as well.

Awesome man! Can't wait to check out the co lr pics!!!!!!! Please more of the nemesis wp in dark too. It's gaining my interest the more I look at the pics.

I tried to take some pics thru my Envis / Burris XTR set-up and none of the pics turned out well at all. I can see pretty well back to a tree line thats probably 300m out back....but the pics I took using quite a few different settings were nothing like what I see thru it (they were horrible actually). Was using a Nikon P310 that I use for digiscoping. Just couldn't find a setting that worked....any suggestions? I have a Canon G12 I could try too.
