The targets on the Intimidator course go from 275 to 1165.

Re: Jan15th Thunder Valley Precision - Ohio

id love to make it to this one but looks like my scope is going back to bushnell for repairs.

Re: Jan15th Thunder Valley Precision - Ohio

Saturday? If I make it, it'll be late to come down and talk to Tom.

Re: Thunder Valley Precision - Ohio Jan15th

Good luck to the Thunder Valley Precision shooters attending this match. Bring home the gold! We need to hear all the gory and glory details at the Jan 15 match.

Start means shooting, or on the way to first station. , right?
Last Chrony 0930.

This is the first shoot that many have come to.
Some of us keep coming back.
Being there, not excusses for not.

We will only learn what we want to.

What happened when thoughts about windows were exchanged?

US Working together.
Let's take an active part in "Our Range"
Nothing is a riddle, if you understand.

Thank-you Tom.

Glen

Re: Thunder Valley Precision - Ohio Jan15th

Max round count is 48

Re: Thunder Valley Precision - Ohio Jan15th

Ya only need 16!

Seriously, as Breeze said, this is an informal match.
You only need four rounds per station, and it will be a long, cold day.

Most would like to go to benches after the first station.
Fuck, my first time I had a spotter Arguing if it was a double wide.

Get your home dope for 550-600.

You will do well on both courses with the same gun.

What can we set to unload our muzzeleloaders?

We could also set a target for all.
IT is up to us working together.

Riddle may riddle might, no riddle tonight.

Re: Thunder Valley Precision - Ohio Jan15th

Nothing to special. Remington sps tac in 308, badger 20 MOA bases, and a millet 4-16. Figured it would get my foot in the door, and I can upgrade as cash allows. My reloading supplies from sinclair should be here in the morning.

Re: Thunder Valley Precision - Ohio Jan15th

what are you going to load?
175's or 178's with 43-45gr of Varget

Re: Thunder Valley Precision - Ohio Jan15th

Bro wants to come to this shoot again.
He wants to shoot his new John Deere stock.

45 Grns is hot for 168 A-Maxx.
Gonna shoot what I have left.

Should I bring some Bacon?

TC

Re: Thunder Valley Precision - Ohio Jan15th

Should I bring some Bacon?

Only if it's marinated in ball sweat and beard hair!

Re: Thunder Valley Precision - Ohio Jan15th

If I get a chance to play with some loads I will be something along those lines. If not I have some gold match that I picked up..

Re: Thunder Valley Precision - Ohio Jan15th

I think I can handle the beard hair.

Made a bunch of different jams, but no duck butter.

Trying to get some more new guys too.

Is the coffee pot still there, or should I bring another?

Bacon is local, and about a big pack worth.
Most don't see, as it gets cooked.

Mighty tasty!

Re: Thunder Valley Precision - Ohio Jan15th

168's & 45 grains of IMR-4895 works too in roomy R-P brass, ~2650 out of a Rem 700 sps tac 20" barrel.

Re: Thunder Valley Precision - Ohio Jan15th

168 A-Maxx and 45 Grns Varget are on the hot side for Two of our guns.
Tom taught me the reasons for FL re-sizing.
Brass is Lapua.
I don't want to buy it again at todays prices.
Ya will not need 200 rounds of ammo!
Just a few good ones to hit the Targets.
Your brass and your ass are the most important things.
If mine, or my Brothers ammo don't work in both, what good is it?

This shoot is not about shooting the entire course.
Weather usually prevails.

Last year was a cold one and we spent the day at station one, and went down to the benches.

As Tom said.
It is our club.
Should I bring a ring of Yoder bacon and cheese?

Re: Thunder Valley Precision - Ohio Jan15th

Chickeneye,

We can have one for you, if you don't mind shooting our ammo.
Choices are a remmy ADL and a 3-9 Leupy,(Short, whippy sporter) Or a Savage 12ftr.(8-32, NPR-1)
Both can be seen in my past pics.
If you want to help burn up last summers ammo, your more than welcome.

Great to see so many new people finding this range.

Re: Thunder Valley Precision - Ohio Jan15th

I think I'm going to come out for this one too.

Is there a GPS address I can plug in?

Re: Thunder Valley Precision - Ohio Jan15th

I don't have the exact numbers, but if you can find Plainfield OH we can get you there.
541/93 split, just east of town.
Top of hill, just off 541.
Take a right.
Would a google earth help?

Re: Thunder Valley Precision - Ohio Jan15th

I'm hoping to make it up there on a weekend I'm off. The 15th I'll be working dayshifts. I'm hoping maybe to get some help starting my reloads. I've already decided on 168 AMAX's but have no idea about OAL, Ogive, or Powder charge.....

Good luck, I have been reading everything I can find on the net, plus a couple books I have borrowed from friends. My plan is to run some 168's I know they are not the best, but I have a bunch of them. There are some great articles on here in the reloading section that will point you in the right direction. I have learned a ton in the last couple weeks. Use the search function, all the knowledge is there.

Re: Thunder Valley Precision - Ohio Jan15th

If you want to get rid of your 168's, bring them to the shoot!
Trigger time and dope works better for me.

168 A-Maxxes really suck.

IMG_3258.jpg

Can't wait to meet some of the new guys.
Bacon, it's what for eating.
Is the coffee pot still alive?
Getting back-up togeter, just in case

Montana Extreme works great for cleaning muzzle loaders.

Re: Thunder Valley Precision - Ohio Jan15th

anything a newbie should bring? other than gear and self

My goal is to reload as close to TAP as possible. From what I read 44gr. of Varget is the sweet spot. I just don't have much experience with bullet seating match grade stuff. If anyone has the tools to measure my chamber and determine where to seat, I'd sure like to borrow and learn. All my 223 I just seated to the cannelures.

Re: Thunder Valley Precision - Ohio Jan15th

A book to write in.
A camera.
Dope sheets for your loads.

Just ask while others are checking zero.

I wasn't intimidated by the course.
Just realized I had a lot to learn.

You to can do that.

Best time you ever had freezing your ass off.
(Maybe second best)

Good luck this weekend.

Re: Thunder Valley Precision - Ohio Jan15th

I think people spend too much time worring about different ammo.
The more you shoot a good load, the more you learn..
44 grains.
RL-15 or Varget.
Both work, easy to remember.

Re: Thunder Valley Precision - Ohio Jan15th

Don't worry about ammo!
I have more than enough for both of us to miss all the targets loaded up!
You'll get trigger time on a Savage FTR, and help me get some dope at the same time.

To everybody thinking about this shoot, dress for it!

This is a great time, you just need to understand what the conditions may be.

One shoot I never want to miss.

See you all there.

Re: Thunder Valley Precision - Ohio Jan15th

does anybody have a chronograph? I have a new load worked up and havent been able to chrono it yet

Re: Thunder Valley Precision - Ohio Jan15th

Be here at 8:30 or 9:00 and I can help you with that.
Please bring a note book and some extra rounds and I will help you obtain all the info you need to hit some steel.

Thanks,

Re: Thunder Valley Precision - Ohio Jan15th

We are new when we go down there for the first few times.
This shoot, is not a normal shoot.
It tests for different conditions.
Thank-you Tom for giving us a place to do this.

It wil be a

Re: Thunder Valley Precision - Ohio Jan15th

Have fun. Don't forget Tom has some raffle tickets for a Shark supressor if anyone wants a $20 can.

Yes, I agree. Let's hit the 100 tickets needed to pull the raffle, I could use a new Shark

I'm looking forward to visiting this year and improviing and learning. I'm also looking forward to some more of Glen's cooking (without the beard hair and ball sweat this time)...

Hopefully my paperwork will come in soon and I'll be able to take part in some of Tom's night shoots...

Re: Thunder Valley Precision - Ohio Jan15th

I learned a long time ago not to fu.. with the cook!
How do you think I got that good?
You only want minor changes?

Any thought about the short course Sunday?

Might have another new guy.
.270 and adjustable scope.

Weather looks good.

Re: Thunder Valley Precision - Ohio Jan15th

Tom's rule.
All bolts out, before arrival.
Safest gun.(No Bolt)
Called to line.
Told to insert bolt.
Bolts out and cleared after firing.
Some even learn how to take their bolts out for the first time.

Looks like a heat wave a coming for the shoot.
