i have a 223 tikka 1-8 twist barrel that I'm not shooting much and I'm wondering if anyone has opened the 223 bolt face to ppc bolt face so I can play around with the Grendel case or ppc cases. Obviously a BR case is the easiest way to deal with the bolt face issue but I have a friend who is a benchrest shooter and has a ton of barrels and cases that have a lot of life left in them so I can play with the ppc stuff cheap. That and the Grendel case looks fun.

Kinda seems like an easy conversion but I can't find anyone who has done this yet. Also I see the follower kit for AICS mags for the BR case but would it work for the PPC case as well?

PS I already have a .260 for long range shooting, I was just looking for a fun gun to use from 400-800 yds.

photo75544.jpgphoto75545.jpg I have a Tikka T3 and a Stiller TAC both in 6.5 Grendel. The actions had 223 bolt faces that were opened up.
Both run and shoot fantastic!
Also, just picked up another Tikka 223 for $300....going to build a 6 Grendel next.

Hey i know this post is little old now. i too have been thinking of building a 6.5 grendel on a tikka 223 action. it’s still fairly new over here in Aus. (at least in my circles). Spoke to a couple of local smiths one had concerns about the depth of the extractor cut out when opening up face and the other was thought we may have to make a custom extractor. was wondering how you went about your tikka conversion and also reamer specs as ultimately i’d like to load longer coal cause i’ve got the room. A mate just offered me his 223 at a price that won’t be beaten so if i’m going to do it nows my chance
cheers

I'm looking to do something similar with a Howa mini-action; the plan is to go with the 6mm AR turbo 40 Improved (what a mouthful!) in a 22" barrel. Howa already offers magazines designed to feed the Grendel/7.62x39 case, so I'm hoping that it'll be a relatively simple setup in order to get it to feed.
