Love the build so far. However, once everything was bolted up I noticed that all the magazines I have tried in the W3 have a lot of play which causes a rattle. Not that this is a huge deal and I understand the need for it to some degree for tolerances and whatnot across many platforms but this is quite a bit of play. So, I was wondering if any of you have worked out a fix for this? Some magazines are better than others but my single stack 10 round AICS magazine is ridiculous. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I am also curious as to how most of your are running your bipods on these things? I love my Harris bipods but I kind of planned on using an Atlas for this build and had it coated and all so I would like to use it. Did you guys remove the sling stud and put a rail there to use the Atlas on or did you get a spigot mount and go that route? Which have you found to be better and why? Thanks for all of the help. I am really loving this thing so far.

The play in the mag is going to be what it is. Not much you can do because of the way the chassis is set up. Bipod mount could go ether way. If you get the spigot mount the bipod would be a little farther forward and provide more stability. Plus you can get the nv mount. MarinePMI. AI makes SA single/single and double /double mags.

I just bolted a WT-3 chassis together with a Tikka T3 action. I use the regular .308 AICS magazines (double stack, single feed). And as you say there is some play.
If I remember correct the instructions state that it is possible to adjust the play a bit by loosening the bolts that hold the forearm in place and push the forearm back a bit. I think the same thing can be done with the triggerguard, but you slide it forward.

As for bipods I removed the slingstud and bolted the included alloy picatinny rail to the bottom of the forearm and mounted my ATLAS bipod to it. I have no complaints this far. The spigot mount might be nice, but I have no experience of it.

I just put in an order for the Accu-shot monopod which I look forward to try out on this rifle. But that is straying out of topic...

Sonic Crack,

Yep, I understand the different AI mags. What I was trying to get at (and not successfully I guess), was that I thought W-3 chassis' used the double stack/single feed mags. Not the AW double/double or AE single/single mags...

Who's mags do you speak of that are double/single? The AI five and ten round mags and the 223 polly mags are at most a staggered/single. I would not consider them a double stack mag

I equate "staggered" with "double", kind of like AR and 9mm "double stack" (staggered) mags...I think we're saying the same thing.

Semantics can be a bitch sometimes...

According to the website, it looks like the Badger 2008 is cut for either AICS or AW mags, and it appears implied (?) that everything else is an AICS mag (for the short actions). Long action using the AI-AE mags?

Again, not sure, just what it seems to read...

Hey guys,
All our chassis are cut for AICS mags. The play is a result of the same old thing of making sure the magwell is big enough for the various mags to all fit and drop free. We're probably going to tighten it up a bit but there will always be some play especially with an empty/near empty mag.

Regarding the AW mags, they are the "same" exterior dimension as the AICS (i.e. in cross section) so they'll fit up into the chassis just fine.

As Sonic Crack mentioned, the trouble is no action is cut to accept the wide feedlips apart from some of the customs like the Badger and some Rem clones. For what it's worth our Badger SA here feeds smoother from an AICS mag than the AW mag though it works from either.

The long action Rem chassis uses AICS 300WM/338LM mags. There are no long action AE mags. The Badger LA and M995 chassis use AICS .338 CIP length mags although I think we're sold out of the 995 chassis now.

Thanks guys,
Justin
