Does anyone on here know what the difference is between the Tikka 695 & 658? Also does anyone have any experience with accuracy and the quality of these 2 actions? I'm looking at taking a Tikka 695 300 Win Mag and re barreling it into a 264 Win Mag. Are these good actions. I know all about the lack of after market parts so I'm mainly currious about the 2 actions and their differences.

Re: Tikka M695 vs Tikka M658

The Tikka M695 (LA) and M595 (SA) are the predecessor to the T3. Actions have a number of similarities and the M595/695 evolved into the T3.

Nothing wrong with a M595/695. They were sold cheap when they were widely available. M595 MasterSporter comes up forsale once in a while.

This is how I understand it.

A friend of mine has the 695 in the 300 win mag with a leupold varx2 3x9-40 and he is asking $800.00 for the package. I am thinking of purchasing it from him and re barreling it into a 264 wim mag. Looks like all that I'd need to do is have a "smith" change the barrel.

Re: Tikka M695 vs Tikka M658

Thanks for the link I've read this a few times. I was mostly wanting to know if these are good quality actions and what the difference is between the M695 vs M658?

Re: Tikka M695 vs Tikka M658

I personally would not pay 800 for a 695 and a VXII. The last 695 I bought I got for 450, and a 3-9VXII is not worth 350 to me personally (not anything really). I don't know anything about the 658 and have never seen one anywhere.

Re: Tikka M695 vs Tikka M658

Thank you for the imput. I have no use for the scope but the action is what I want. I have read that there is very little work that would need to be done on the 595/695 actions. I am open to suggestions.

Re: Tikka M695 vs Tikka M658

The Tikka 695 is a great action. I have a number of 595's (same except short action) that I shot in competition and they worked flawlessly. In fact...of all of the rifles I have ever owned ( and there have been quite a few high priced guns like TRG & AI), a Tikka 595 rebarreled with a chrome-moly Wilson bbl in 243 Win has to date , still beeen the most consistently accurate rifle I have owned. No truing needed on most Tikkas, triggers can be worked and are normally pretty darn crisp from the get go. You won't be disappinted with it. I wouldn't pay $800 though. They sell fr around $400-$500 without scope.

Re: Tikka M695 vs Tikka M658

The 695 and 658 are quite similar. However, one difference is a syntetic sleeve around the bolt wich makes the bolt run even slicker than the T3 and 695. The sleeve eliminates metal to metal contact between the bolt and the receiver and between the lockinglug and the boltstop.

Re: Tikka M695 vs Tikka M658

I've found a M695 270 win. for $699.00. The one that the guy wants $800.00 is the M695 Mag. 300 WM. I've also found another M695 Mag 338 WM for about $599.00. These actions are very hard to find. Seems like people don't want to let go of them once they get them.

Re: Tikka M595/M695

chrisj, thanks for the great info! I've been doing more research and I know that I want the Tikka 595/695, I have not found anywhere that has these for under $575.00. I found 2 M695 270 win. priced @ $660.00 and $699.00 without a scope. By the time I add shipping and the FFL transfer fee I'm pretty close to what the seller here in Utah is asking for his M695 Mag 300 win mag w/ Leupold var x 2 3x9-40, I was hoping that I could sell the scope for atleast $100.00 or so to make up the difference. My thinking is if I buy a Rem action and then pay a smith to true it up and do everything else that would need to be done, would I be closer to the $700.00 to $1,000.00 range? There for buying the Tikka 595/695 would the Tikka 595/695 require all of the extra work? My plan was to either get the M695 Mag 300 win mag and rebarrel it to a 264 win mag or get the M695 270 win and rebarrel it to a long action 260 or a 6.5x284? I would appreciate any and all input on this subject would be much appreciated.

Re: Tikka M595/M695

Might want to also consider a Sako A5. Many of these were factory outfitted with McMillan synthetic stocks.

If you are looking for a magnum action to build with, the Sako TRG-S used the M995 action which is same used on TRG 42 rifles. Same trigger, just no inside triggerguard safety lever and w/o the modularity. Only other difference is the scope rail. TRG-S has a wider integral dovetail than the 42. Near Mfg has the best rail mount for the TRG-S.

The M995 is one of few factory actions built specifically for the .378wby and .338 Lapua sized ctgs. There are many other bonuses for the switchbarreler which make the M995 Sako action the finest choice available, bar none.
