Hi, just want to start by saying these forums are great and helped me a lot with selecting my latest firearm.

I recently bought a Tikka T3 Tactical in .308, and so far have been very happy with it. However I am hoping somebody can help me with a question regarding bolt takedown.

I have watched videos on youtube and read the instructions, the shroud comes off no problem, however when I insert an allen key or screw driver and turn counter clockwise into the second (deeper) groove, the bolt pinches the screwdriver, giving no "wiggle" as I see in videos, and I cannot remove the handle either.

Am I missing something really obvious here? I follow the videos to the second but I just cannot get the handle to remove, or the internals to freely slide back and forth.

If anybody can shed some light I would be eternally grateful.

Thanks a lot!

Re: Tikka T3 Bolt Takedown

wow thanks for the quick replies

If you watch this video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6A-1cbAnRE

at 1:15 when he turns to the second indent there is no tension and he can wiggle the mechanism back and forth. When i turn mine there it pulls forward with quite a bit of force, like it's not disengaging or something...

It's got me stumped, maybe I need to take it to a smith

Re: Tikka T3 Bolt Takedown

There needs to be clearance between the allen wrench and the bottom of cocking ramp so you can push the firing forward to release the bolt handle from the dovetail. I use a piece of .250 brass rod to hold the spring back. Hope this helps. Regards, Paul.

Re: Tikka T3 Bolt Takedown

Thanks for the replies, still no soup. I tried doing it just like they do in the videos but I still get no back and forward movement when I rotate to the larger indent.

I will take it to the shop tomorrow and see what they say.

Thanks for your help, I will keep you posted regarding what the shop says

You've got to hold the bolt handle tight and keep it in place. The shroud will need to rotate around the bolt to the indent. It is harder to turn than what's in the vid.

Re: Tikka T3 Bolt Takedown

Thanks guys, the bolt has been in the shop for almost a week now so they are either being lazy or struggling with it too. will swing by this weekend and lean on them a bit

Re: Tikka T3 Bolt Takedown

Just an update in case anybody was following this, turns out there was a bit if rough metal inside the mechanism that was jamming and stopping the action from sliding freely and thus the handle from slipping out, took the gunshop forever to figure it out but now they say they have smoothed it out and it's working as intended.

Thanks for all the help guys
