About a year ago I put a new IOR 2.5 -10 on my new 5r. As time went on I am finding myself wanting more magnification.

Fast forward a bit and I now have formulated some thoughts. After using the MP8 reticle I don't care to go back to mill dots. I do want illumination of some flavor. A zero stop would be nice, but I have done ok without it. The base is a Badger 20 degree and I currently have Badger rings on it but those will stay with the current optic. Most of my shooting is 500 yards and under, but I plan on getting out to at 800 to 1000 later this year. It's still a tactical type gun, not a bench gun.

Right now I have about 2k to spend if I so choose but it seems like I am in-between price ranges. I have considered the new IOR 3-18 but I want to take a serious look at other options before I jump.

1. What else would fit FFP, Illuminated, IOR or better glass, mil/mil, with 15 or better power? And I gotta say, I have been impressed with my current glass so anything of lesser clarity need not apply.

2. At this point should I just consider throwing in more cash to get into a really good optic? I don't think I want to get into the 3k range, but maybe this is the time to really step it up.

Re: Time for a bit more scope?

I've heard outstanding things about the new Weaver 3-15 Tactical.

The glass will not be on par with the IOR, but you also must consider the Vortex Razor. What it lacks in stunning glass, it more that makes up for in mechanical robustness and reliability. If you want to buy your last scope, you seriously need to check one out.

For just a little more the Nightforce F1 is a very good optic also.

Funny, I don't recall a FFP nightforce for 1600 bucks, unless you meant to say 1600 + 700 (give or take)

Re: Time for a bit more scope?

I vote USO as well. If not them you still have NF F1 and the Vortex Razor which are both great scopes right at 2 grand or a little more.

Hmmmm . . . .

Gotta work on my Google skills

Re: Time for a bit more scope?

Thanks for the thoughts thus far.

I am not stuck at 2k and if a bit more goes that much further in quality or options.....

Re: Time for a bit more scope?

At the 2K limit you are getting a reliable optic with good/very good glass. At the 3K area you are getting a reliable optic with great/excellent glass. So really comes down to how crisp does the glass need to be and will you be able to tell if not comparing side/side. Shoot for reliability and the glass will be just fine.

IMO the IOR 3-18x50 and 6-24x56 will have the advantage in glass and value per dollar. The 10 mil per rev knobs are ideal to me!I like the spacing between clicks on them.I'm a fan of that MP-8 reticle even though it's .1 mil thick. The push button illumination is my favorite of all the scopes I've tried. They are around $1800-$1850.

I think the Razor's advantage's are it's clickless zeroing system, zero stop mechanism,36 mils total elevation and warranty.Their reticles are excellent! The glass to me is good/acceptable but not great.Around $2000

I like these things about the NF F1.It's size, weight, glass,HS knobs,ZS,MLR2 and H-58 reticles. To me the illumination system needs a revamp and I'd prefer the ocular not turning with magnification.I'm looking forward to the "beast" they have coming out in the future.I hope they've addressed these issues.
Around $2300.

Next step up is the big $ scopes.I'm still trying to figure out if I want one myself??? We'll see when the Beast rises up from it's maker.
