I found a fire lapping kit I had picked up years ago but never used. it was one with precoated bullets in loaded ammunition. I was planning on replacing the barrel next year, so figured, what the hell. I wanna see what kind of difference it will make. so took off a little early from my shift at the range so I could do it there. took about 45 minutes (3 live fire sessions). The loads were fairly soft shooting. was a fairly easy process.

The results after final cleaning. first shot adjusted scope.......the I had 4 rnds of Federal Gold Medal Match touching each other. I then tried some hornady the grouped about 3/4" an inch. and then was not able to do more shooting since I had to let a few guys try another rifle of mine before the range closed up.

So far, I am pleased. Can not wait to do some more shooting. was weird to use a bolt gun. it has been awhile. I have mostly been shooting Semi Autos lately.

Would I do this to a high end barrel. No. it is a factory barrel on my Savage. not a big loss if I loose a little lifespan on it.....it is a project barrel. tempting to even cut it down to 16", thread the muzzle and use it for some subsonic 308 shooting with my suppressor.
