Stories like this just underline to me that the world is getting hip-deep in inconsequential, self-centered, slack-jawed fuck-chops.

http://www.foxnews.com/lifestyle/20...r-being-bad-boy-picking-fights-with-deer.html

My grandfather on my dad's side was a state DLEO, i.e., dog catcher, but he'd get pissed if you called him that.

In his day, which is to say a good portion of mine, dogs that ran deer were routinely destroyed mid-stride if they could get a bead on them.

Game isn't cheap, and the ones that go out fishing and hunting are by and large those who pay for conservation. Uneducated slobs just piss me off, especially those who trivialize shit like this as the hi-jinks of a "harmless" pet.

If deer can run freely around, then they are fair game for any other animal that wants to chase them.
Or is it only the wolves that the government purposely bring to the areas that are allowed to chase deer?

It's perfectly fine if the police want to go track down an escaped pet dog & bring them back in to safety / to their owners for the good of the dog.

I'm not sure if its dogs that are "fixated" on deer, but rather that dogs that are born to hunt, will hunt whenever possible & any animal that looks nervous or runs or twitches funny is fair game & they will chase unless prevented / ordered not to depending on the dog.

Some dogs are bred / trained for birds & just love to chase and catch bird type things, other hunting dogs couldn't care less about the birds but want things of the 4 legged variety. (Or those evil 2 wheel things that move against nature HA!).

A hunter shot my friends dog for "scaring off the deer". In the dogs own yard...

I agree - Tons of FUCK STICKS out there. Some with orange vests and hunting rifles, some whose tie-dyed shirts smell like weed.

I can back up the statement of a dog that would run deer wouldnt be long for this world, my uncle had many hounds and if you have ever tried keeping up with or finding a dog running deer in the middle of the night its a losing battle. The worse part is the other dogs that werent a problem before have to be broke of the bad habit. It was also against the state hunting laws were I grew up to use dogs for hunting or driving deer.

That’s not a hunter. That’s a fucktard with a license that should have lost his priveledge? Had run ins with guys like that running fences on our range land.

Many moons ago a good friend had a stupid hound that would brake off a coon trail to chase deer. After some frustration trying to train the dog with shock collars my friend gathered up some rotting deer skin and bones left over from dear season and tossed them in a 55 gallon drum tossed the hound in on top of all that rotten skin and bones and snapped the drum lid in place. After the dog started to cry a little he took a stick and started to beat the drum for about five minutes then rolled the drum down a hill. That dog never chased another deer.

how much if we tranquilize like 5 trillion of those filthy beasts and deliver them to you???
they are a problem here

If you are having trouble with an overpopulation of deer in your state, I suggest your state hire Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife to manage your herds. Your deer population will plummet.

It's now illegal to run deer with dogs in my area now. Used to be the norm. I don't really care if an escaped pooch runs deer around here, as long as he doesn't try to run cattle.

A few years back I had an experience with a dog running deer right under my stand.
He stopped within range.
I drew back out of anger.
After some contemplation I decided to let down.
Busted ass back to my truck.
Found dog/walker on the road just south of area.
Engaged "Owner", "My dog doesn't chase deer never has".
Sad part, dipshit was a hunter and walking his duck dog.
I answered cool, so when I run a broadhead through the mystery dog we're all good.
Dipshit found a new walking venue around deer thirty.

Ranch rules are pretty simple. My dog crosses your fence line, bothers the cattle and gets shot there’s not a damn thing to say. Apologize and go bury the dog. I love my dogs and would hate it, but those are the rules as money on the hoof is no joke.

Totally agreed. Used to ranch.

I have kids and if a dog threatens them for example it’s on.

i’m lucky that i have great pyrenees, so on both occasions this has happened i didn’t have to anything but watch.

I did, however, learn that a 185 lb great pyr named Thor can crush a pit bulls head with such force that the pit bulls lower jaw pops out on the ground. Thor gave that dog every chance to back off, and didn’t bark at him or provoke him at all. it was even smart enough to run off the first time. When it popped out of the trees right next to the kids and tried attacking, i was like damn stupid fuckhead. it is still the single nastiest thing i have ever seen.

Second time i learned a great pyr can get in a fight with a Belgian Malinois and when it’s over the pyr is just fine and so are the kids. i felt a little bad about that one - some dumbasses sent their 12 year old girl out of the pet groomers with their Malinois We were eating dinner up the way. Big ass dog saw us and immediately attacked. Poor girl was trying to hold the dogs leash so hard she smashed her face on the concrete hard hard hard. i made sure to let her know that she did the best job she could once she was back in the game sorta.

i’m sure the vet bills and doctor bills were educational for her parents regarding the wisdom of giving an 80 lb girl a 100lb dog to keep control of, and their poor dog lost an eye.

Damn it’s hard getting blood out of that white fur though.

Our book keeper was raising a couple, till one day a female Longhorn showed them quite explicitly the difference between concealment and cover.

Cousin in New Mexico had one stick horn through truck door and rip door off truck. F350.... while he went out passenger door. Not sure who's crazier, the moo or the fool cousin keeping them. Cuz is on that list though.... ?

My uncle Curtis on mama's side was a rodeo rider back in the (80's??) or so, took a horn straight through the gut. Survived tho. Course hes a sandlapper however but just barely by way of Aiken, if he'd a been a proper Georgian it woulda never happened. Sandlappers wish mighty hard they were from Georgia, but they just aint quite got the finesse and natural talent in, well, damn near bout everything. :D
Something about the city slicker/trailer park royalty hybrids that make up Myrtle Beach and branch out elsewhere amongst the state done spread that slight mental defectiveness to pretty much every corner of sandlapperville...

Or llamas, although they come with their own challenges.

On dogs chasing deer, control your animals or face the consequences. Most states have provisions for the legal killing of dogs and cats caught harassing game or livestock. https://www.animallaw.info/article/table-state-and-federal-laws-concerning-dogs-chasing-wildlife

Growing up we had a small herd of about 40 ewes. Had a Llama for them as we had an abundance of coyotes. That Llama did it's share to cull the coyote population.

Same my aunt and uncle used the llamas for, protecting their small herd of Navajo Churro sheep in Utah when they were raising them to help bring the breed back. Not a snake or coyote to worry about with them in the field. Unfortunately, the male got too aggressive with the sheep and everyone else that came anywhere near its sister who was also in the field, and ended up with the 300WM disciplinary treatment.

Thats a big ass Malinois, most of the males won't exceed 80lbs. With most being somewhat smaller.
