So I finally got my notification today saying if I want to continue using PayPal enter last 4 of my social, well I’m not comfortable doing that. Does anyone agree with this and if not who else can we use that is safe?

Realistically, what information are they going to take from you knowing the last 4 of your social?

Fuck PayPal. I won't do business with people who insist on using it buying or selling. It's just another money sucker getting between buyer and seller with the impression that you are somehow safer and less likely to get screwed.
If yer doing business with someone you don't trust, don't do business with them. I use a credit card or a USPS Money Order.

What ever you decide, Just don't do it by clicking the link in the email. If you decide to give them the info, navigate to the website to do it. You never know if the email is a pish.
I sold a bipod and took PP for it, so the money is sitting there, I thought I would spend some using PP to pay for a purchase. They charged my CC for the purchase and left the balance in my account untouched. That kinda pissed me off.

I'm not saying you did it wrong. but it sounds like you missed something.
i use paypal A LOT. it always gives me the option to pick where the funds are coming from. Paypal/linked bank account/paypal smart connect/CC
it's never just PICKED for me...
I agree that likely I did something wrong, but whatever it was was not obvious to me. My point I guess was that IMHO they made it harder for me to make it work the way I would like it to. Thus I use it less often.

My personal refusal to use PP has cost me more than one deal in the EE.

I too have missed out on good deals in the PX as I don't use PayPal. I am a little surprised how many gun aficionados use it, considering the company's political stances. People shot their coolers for less.
I used to make/sell custom cutlery. I told all my customers to send me a USPS Money Order and that I did not accept PayPal because of the excessive fees they charged that I had to pass along. Folks asked me why a postal MO and the answer was that if you paid me with a USPS MO and I didn't send you the item or screwed with you it would take 5 minutes to get the USPS to track me down and investigate because I had used the USPS to commit fraud.
Federal crime that would be investigated and prosecuted. Keeps everyone honest. PayPal is anti 2A . No way.

Sucks that they are such fuckers cuz there’s lots of good deals that come across here and it’s such a pain in the ass to do money orders. But I just don’t see myself using pay pal anymore
