This is a question for those of you who shoot competitively with QD cans. Like many of you, I have a beast of a rifle from a weight perspective. 19 lbs on an AICS, with a big MTU contour barrel. Do any of you with QD cans REMOVE the can for shooting unsupported positions? I cant imagine adding another 8" of barrel to my rifle with another 1-2 lbs off of that and having to sling up to shoot sitting, unsupported prone, or off-hand. Is the idea of removing the can practical? If not, it seems that I would rather have a direct thread on rather than a QD.

Re: To QD or Not to QD?

I would go with a QD. It will give you a shorter overall working rifle length and allow you to take off the can quickly. Please go to the following thread. It has some valuable information on QD versus thread on cans. Skip all the fluff and jump right to "jhuskey" and his comments toward the end of the thread. They could not be said any better. This is a good read.

I hope this helps.

Re: To QD or Not to QD?

The first suppressor I ever shot was an AWC that put what felt like several pounds on the end of a 28" barrel.

That is why I like Titanium cans. But inconel is heavy . . .

"QD" is a misnomer. Most of my cans are QD because I want the positive lock-up, not because I want to be able to quickly attach or detach.

Re: To QD or Not to QD?

I like QD because of the fact its racheting down on a mount and you can get several mounts to run on different rigs.... and only have to buy one suppressor. cost effective!

Re: To QD or Not to QD?

I like the term Quick Attach better. When it is hot unless you have glove or pot holder it can't be QD enough to keep from getting burned.
I have both and really like the QA better.
