for the first time i shot my 6.5 at 1550yds according to gps. went the extra 50yds to make damn sure. pushing the 123 a-max and 123 scenar at 3150fps. it was INCREDIBLE how much flatter and how much less wind drift the scenar had. 8MOA less elevation and 3MOA less wind! i was able to score three consecutive hits with the scenar on my steel IPSC target. the wind was blowing at what i guessed 10mph full value. it must have been more because the windage needed was more than expected for both me and my buddy shooting his 338EDGE. he needed 11MOA windage. i needed more than twice that! overall, we had a great time and learned to appreciate even the smallest wind variances.

its a 6.5 wildcat i made by running my 6.5x47 reamer in long. it has a case capacity close to the .260 remington. i am going to rechamber to .260AI and run the 140vlds as hard as i can. it should make these kind of distances much easier.

Try the 139 scenars in the .260AI. I've been playing with them in my new GAP and at 2850fps they shot really good at 1250 yards (put 5 inside a 10" circle, dead calm)

Great shooting BTW!!!

Re: took the 6.5 to 1550yds today

i will certainly try the 139 scenar. i have some 130 berger vlds and a great load for them in this rifle but i knew i was going to rechamber it and wanted to save them for the 260AI. i wish i would have taken a few with me now to see how they compared to the 123's. my load pushes the 130 at 3050. i would imagine the .260AI will get 2950 with the 139's and 140's pretty easily. i pushed the 140 a-max over 2900 in my wildcat and the brass is still going strong. i used winchester 7mm-08 brass.

.260 Remington is a great cartridge. Use Remington brass because it's relatively inexpensive with pretty good availability. Here's a recipe for success:

* Remington brass (prepped and weight sorted to within 1gr). This has 56.0gr of water volume in my GAP chambered M40A5.
* 47.0gr Hodgdon H4831SC
* Lapua 139gr Scenar
* Federal 210 or 210M primer
* 2.810" COAL

This gives about 2,830fps with a 25" barrel, according to Quickload.
