I'm in the same boat as the OP.
I like that the IORs. I'm looking at the 3-18x42. It comes with free shipping, heavy rings, sunshade, lens cover, for what the similar model Nightforce comes with as the basic scope. Most every IOR dealer has the one I'm looking at in stock and have found a couple of good deals from the MAP that their forced to advertise.
Seams like my research has mixed reviews on the quality of the IOR. Sounds like most the bugs have been worked out with the latest design. The IOR is Romanian.
The Nightforce seems to get all good reviews and is made in Idaho. I've found a couple of good deals but they are all back ordered
I'd love to hear some reviews from some IOR owners.

Most NFs are made in Japan I think the F1 is the only USA built one.I owned a IOR 3x18 ffp for about a week.....I dont own it anymore it was a gen 3.

for the 143rd time, glass in IOR's are really good, really good. NXS have good glass too but maybe just not quite there with the IOR(the NXS line) Now the F1 line is supposed to have premium glass in them so sounds like a damn fine scope. The NXS have a much much better track record of reliability but, the IOR is supposed to be getting much better. If you ever had a problem with either the CS of both companies is really nice. I've had great experience with IOR CS.

Actually all are assembled and quality tested here but the F1 and the whole compact line are made up of enough US parts to include the tubes that they can wear the Made in the USA label. The 3.5-15s and up just use some parts not made here so they can't but they still have US hands putting them together and QCing them. NF scopes are built to take a beating in military hands so they are built tough.
Also the glass on the NF scopes is very good in my opinion. I alway hear people taking it down but i have no problems seeing my targets nice and clearly.
Oh and I have heard NF customer service is good but I have never had to use it

I don't think the NF glass is bad, it's just not quite as good as the other big players. But, you shouldn't have a problem with the quality of the glass by any means. NF is good stuff, some of the very best.

I first purchased an IOR Snipers hide edition IOR. I place it on my 308 and loved it. I purchased another from a Hide member and it sits on my GAP 338 Lapua. The 308 has had about 700 plus rounds and the 338 has had about 400 between the Sako TRG and the GAP. Would I buy another, I will. I've had no problems with either one. The first one I bought is a 1st generation. I'm actually looking at buying one of the 40mm tube scopes. It's just that the Holidays are coming and I'm shopping now and have a build over a GAP. It may have to wait until December, but I will buy another soon.

I like the glass, reticle, price tag and the fact that it is ffp about my IOR. But I like the way the adjustments feel and the amount of travel on my NF. Plus I think the NF just FEELS more durable. FWIW.

I have had 6 or 7 IORs over the last few years. All of them have been very accurate on the adjustments and all of them have had excellent glass. Right now, the only IORs I feel like is worth buying would either be the 3-18 FFP or the 2.5-10x FFP. I have the 3-18FFP and while I like the scope, I have had it replaced twice. But so far this time around it is doing well. I had the 2.5-10x FFP, but did not care for the knobs or lack or parallax adjustment so I sold it and bought a SS 10x HD.
From my research and personal experience it is the sniper hide edition that has been faulty. All of my others which consist of a 2.5-10x SFP, a 2.5-10x FFP two 3-18x SFP, a 3-18x FFP a 6-24x and a fixed 4x tactical version have been good scopes.
I personally have never owned the nightforce, but I have used them a bit and it is obvious they are a good scope by the reviews and use they get.
Just an FYI the F1 does not have a higher grade of glass than the others. That has been asked directly to Nightforce by several people I know at shows where Nightforce were at. That is why it is so shocking that they cost so much more than the other models. Really makes you wonder what their reasoning is for the huge price increase. They claim it was because of the redesign of the erector assembly and the elevation knob. But wow, it is a lot of money.

I'm glad the OP made this thread. I had considered putting a IOR on my .243 build and that might confirm it considering i can get one from swfa.com thats 6.5-20x50 with sunshade and rings for 1594$ That seems to be the only place i've found IORs if anyone knows another let me know.

A little off topic but Nightforces have a lifetime warrenty right? So if you were to buy a used and something went wrong with it would it be covered? I have bought a couple Leupolds second hand and sent them in no problem.

From what i've read Both Nightforce and IOR seem pretty equal in tracking solid rep. There is more reputation for Nightforce because hell IOR is really not well known in U.S. I'm siding with the IOR cause i like the fact that for 1594$ i get a sunshade and 35mm tactical rings with it. Sniperscentral.com has some reviews on IOR. I think either one is good enough for whatever your shooting. Just look at reticles and knobs and the way the scope looks and make your choice. The only thing i can't vouge for IOR is glass but it's good from the reviews. I've looked through a nightforce they are nice.

On the cost, for about $1483 you get a Nightforce 3.5-15x50 with sunsahde and for another $110 you can get a set of rings so cost wise they are about the same.

It never ceases to amaze me how many of these threads end up as "this is better because I own it, I trust it, and I will not buy anything else". (which more often than not is the Nightforce crowd) Im sorry but every company has its issues when mass producing something. It seems like most of the time it comes down to which scope has the features you are looking for, as all the glass in this price range is very good. If you decide to go with IOR, get it from Scott at LO, he will take good care of you.

Just so you know I have shot with and owned Burris, Leupold, Bushnell, USO, S&B, and Premier so I am not the usual guy who has only used and owns one scope and thinks it's the best. I have tried many others and I shoot Nightforce.

I have seen pictures of your extensive collection from my time here on the hide and SC and respect your poinion, because I know you can render a good one on the subject. I realize that IOR has had problems but I dont think that they are problems that Nightforce is immune to. I will agree that on average Nightforces internals are on the better side, but I also believe that for one reason or another people dont bring up their issues with Nightforce on this site. That sort of thing sucks when you are trying to gather information on a product you want to purchase, because it makes it impossible to find information that is unbias. This is especially true when trying to gather information on scopes in the $500-$1500 range, because there is room for lemons. Actually, just about the only scope in this price range that I have found to be universally liked with good CS backing is Sightron. For this reason an SIII 6-24 LRMD will be on the rifle im having built. Sorry to get off topic.

Sorry i ment to put the IOR power in there. You can get all that and have 6.5-24x50mm IOR for 1594$. The prices are still probably close but i would think nightforces offerings of 5.5-22x50 would be a little higher.

Nightforce 5.5-22 is about $1600.
Scat, there also might be another reason you don't hear about them breaking as much in that they don't. Of all the F1 scopes out there including the ones in military hands there has only been one returned broken. That is not bad for a first run production of a new FFP scope.
Granted anything can break but with good components, production and QC checks before scopes go out the number of problems can be kept to a minimum. I have read about some small problems with NF scopes on the boards but not many and definitely not many proportionally to how many are out there compared to other brands.
Nightforce 5.5-22 is about $1600.

I have several of both IOR and NF. What I like most about NF is their durability, tracking reliability, parallex adjustment- it has a much larger range and sensitivity than the IOR. What I like about the IOR is the elevation knob - 25MOA's per turn, the reticle, just love the MP8, slightly better glass although after replacing a defective IOR{parallax kept going out of focus} the new one doesn't seem as clear as my NF's. My other IOR's are slightly better optically than the NF's, especially my 4-28x56 IOR. I prefer MOA scopes and had a NF with the NP-R1 and had a real difficult time focusing the reticle, ended up sending it back and had a MD put in. If NF ever got a larger range Elev knob, I think I would change all my scopes to that.

Ya thats what i figured. I don't know i guess they are about the same except for the fact IOR isn't known in the U.S. I do love the MP8 reticle by IOR though. In the end i would rate the scopes about equal based on reviews.

IOR is well known in the US and has also been on this site through group buys and also I believe a SH version of a scope. Scott at Liberty Optics has been selling them here for a while.

Scat, there also might be another reason you don't hear about them breaking as much in that they don't. Of all the F1 scopes out there including the ones in military hands there has only been one returned broken. That is not bad for a first run production of a new FFP scope.</div></div>
I thought the F1s were designed to be a military scope.
Well i had never seen or heard anything about em till 2 days ago. Thats why i didn't think they were well known.
