Torque for muzzle compensator?

AAC and Surefire recommend 20-30 foot pounds. You MUST use Rocksett for threading locking due to the extreme temperatures.

Thank you. I have never heard of Rocksett so I used my Googlefu and found this thread:

Rocksett, where to get it, and does it match up to any # loctite? - AR15.Com Archive

Now I am wondering if Rocksett is the best choice? As I am not using a can nor shooting full auto (thank you Kalifornia), I wonder how high a temp my barrel will reach? Even with firing off a couple of mags in a few minutes... Has anyone actually used a temp gun on their barrel after shooting 20 or 30 rounds of .308 rapid fire to see what temp is reached? Also this is going on a 24" bull barrel so I would think it would take a bit more to heat up.

The locktite 272 is rated to 450F and I have some 620 at home that is also rated to 450F. I see a Locktite 2620 that is rated to 650F. Or is the consensus to use the Rocksett?

Here is the best to buy Rocksett: ROCKSETT | Brownells

It is good down to -350 degrees F and up to 2,015 degrees F. If you use normal loctite, it will melt and the muzzle brake could start rattling off! This could really hurt if you do not notice this. Pretty much every muzzle brake I purchased (Surefire and AAC) all come with a little tube of Rocksett.

I just used this stuff on my AAC Muzzle Brake and even with a suppressor, it is rock solid.

Good luck and have fun shooting out there. Let me know if you need help with installing the muzzle brake, especially trying to get that 12 O'clock position set just right, it is interesting.

Rocksett

Umm... This is the temperature rating after full curing of the resin for 24 hours. Interestingly, the actual strength of the Rocksett is low, but the resin will not fail with high temperatures. I hope I answered your question correctly.

If you buy a SureFire Muzzle brake it comes with a tube of Rocksett. I've had to take my brake off and it was not much of a problem even though the Rocksett had cured.

My Googlefu is still better. $1.99

Only bad thing is I just ordered a new 308 bolt carrier/gas key from Brownells late last night and it already shipped this morning. Hate to pay another $8 shipping on a tube of glue...

I think I am going to have a local gun shop/smith do the Comp timing (just so it is done right) but I don't know if he has Rocksett on-hand (have to take the parts in to get a price. They said $45 min charge but as I don't have a big vise or barrel blocks it is worth it for me). Too busy to go to the gun store during lunch today so will probably go there tomorrow. Only thing I am worried about is that the gas block has to go on before the Comp so it will be a real PITA to change it if I need to.

Here is the hand tight version: (also selling the troy 13.8" 308 TRX forearm as the gas block touches the rail brackets. Going for a 15" PRI CF forearm instead)

Midway wants $15.20 to ship that tube to Virginia...

Stupid me. When I just checked they actually want $15.20 for UPS ground to San Diego AND a $3 handling fee for an order under $25. $18.20 for shipping a $2 tube of glue. And they don't even include any KY?

Funny, but I just shipped a 9 lb AR15 upper to North Carolina yesterday by Fed Ex ground (through my work) and it only cost $18.69. Think Midway is making extra money on shipping?
