I guess the tracer compound does not give off light in the IR spectrum

You CAN see tracers via thermal cameras, it's like a function of that particular camera or frame rate. There are other videos on the net that contradict your answer.

With most of the Thermal Sights that I used in the Infantry you could see bullets flying threw the air period. They didn't even have to be tracers.

The refresh rate is too low on most IR cameras to pick up high speed anything until you get into mega-dollar units. I have a $8000 FLIR B60 that wouldn't see that either.
