How much velocity we be given up by going with the 20" vs 26" in the 308. Could it still reach a 1000 with factory? I remember reading that you can run AICS mags but I put one in a trg at the store today and it got stuck. Do you have to modify the AICS mag. Looks like the bump would have to be flattened and have a notch cut for the latch. What kind of groups should the gun be capable of? Who make the best base for it? I have heard the screw holes are not standard screws threads (prob metric), has this been a problem for anybody. Overall what is everybody general opinion of the TRGs?

This is what I think I want. A TRG 22 with 20" barrel and fixed stock. I think I will get the bipod too. Looks pretty nice. I know the 20" comes with the folder so it would hit the classifieds and I would buy the fixed stock. If intrested give me a shout on the folder. Would like to have a deal worked out before I buy the gun.

Sorry about this being so long. Just trying to make sure I get what I want.

Re: TRG 22 questions?

skog,

Buying a 20" folder and then purchasing the fixed butt will cost you way more money than is advisable. I would purchase the 26" with fixed stock...actually, I just did from Alex at Euro Optic, and then have a smith cut the barrel down to 20" and recrown. That will save you a lot of money than going the route you are talking. Also, use google to search for threads about barrel length and velocity. Lowlight is getting out to 1000 yards with an 18" barrel on his Gladius. Link is below. Search, and you will find tons of info on barrel length.

Gladius at 800 and 1000

Re: TRG 22 questions?

New folder sells for 2300-2800, If I can sell for close to that I would be ok, I can get a decent used stock for cheap if not free from a buddy who bought a folder. By my math it would be cheaper for me to by the 20" and sell the stock then buy the 26" and cut it off.

Isnt LL's a .298? Will that make that much difference?

Re: TRG 22 questions?

You may be harder pressed to find someone who really wants to trade the fixed for the folder, but I could be wrong. LL's is a .298, but you should still be able to make it with 155 scenars or 175s. There is a lot of debate on the base, but NEAR mfg is always put out there. They have recoil lugs built into the base and 6 mounting bolts. It won't go anywhere. Not sure about the issue with the AICS mags. I have not tried it. The screws should not be an issue. If you cannot find replacements at your local hardware store, you can always check the internet. There are tons of places to find fasteners. Also, the ATLAS bipod will be out with a spigot that mounts the same way as the TRG bipod, but will save you a couple hundred bucks. Should be out in the next few months...hopefully...
