TRG-42 338LM vs Custom

Re: TRG-42 338LM vs Custom

The Sako is a great piece. But I chose a Surgeon XL action with the AI CIP stock.

If you go to Surgeon's site, they have 2 built ready for sale right now.

I am shooting the Berger 300gr hybrid magazine fed and it shoots .4 moa out to the 500 yds I have put it on paper. Past that it seems to still hold great on steel, but I haven't verified groups beyond that.

I would highly recommend Surgeon.

Re: TRG-42 338LM vs Custom

I'm really interested in hearing more input on this. I have a custom rifle in 7wsm, and it's sub half moa. I want a 338lm that is at least .75 moa, .5 or less would be even better.

I'm considering a Defensive Edge custom rifle, in the $3500 range. I also have my eye on TRG-42's on eurooptics website in the $2600 range.

I wonder if the Trg will be as consistent as a Carlock rifle. I wonder if the extra money spent on the custom will be worth it. Comparitive resale value?

Which custom rifles are you considering? And what's your budget?

Does he build good guns?

Re: TRG-42 338LM vs Custom

My experience with a Sako TRG22 has been nothing but excellent. While shooting the Sako, I was shooting another "premium" factory rifle that guarantees half minute accuracy. Although both rifles had the same mechanical ability to put rounds into a half minute, the ergonomics of the Sako made it easier to shoot well. Both rifles had stocks that were adjustable for length and cheek piece height, and adjustable triggers..it was simply easier to shoot the Sako well.

I have no experience with the Defensive edge rifles. The Sako rifles come with a chrome bore so barrel life will be a little better than a non chrome lined bore. There is a pretty good reason that many military units choose the Sako..they just work well...sort of like the Accuracy International, only a little cheaper.

Any decision made? If so, what? and why?

Just curious, cuz I'm debating the exact same thing right now. It didn't seem like too much input came from out of this thread yet, maybe we can revive it.
