I just picked up one of the Leupold Mil. spotting scopes like this:

and I need some suggestions for a good, small lightweight tripod and head. Preferably something that packs really well and gets low to the ground as necessary. TIA.

I have the same spotter and I'm using this:

Small, compact and light. it's the same tripod that PRS (Hide member Platypus) uses for their small rifle tripod. Takes Krylon too..

I think it is also available with a tilt/pan head if preferred.

Folded or with the tripod removed it fits comfortably into the long pocket on an Eagle drag bag.

If I need something taller/larger/more robust I also have this, but it is no good for prone:

http://www.sportingservices.co.uk/optical.asp (scroll down to about 2/3rd down the page)

Crappy pics added (ignore the messy desk!):

At minimum height (around 11" to top of scope)

At max height (around 14" to top of scope)

Scope Cover is London Bridge Company.

I have the same spotting scope and use the Slik Sprint Mini.

I like it because it covers prone up to sitting/kneeling/squatting height.
I also replaced the ball head with the Manfrotto 484RC2 head so I had quick disconnect.
It uses the same QD plate as my full size tripod with, also with a Manfrotto head.

I didn't know when I got mine that leupold actually made a tripod for it!

On the upside the Slik Mini Pro is less than half that price and packs up to around 7or 8".

It is looking like the Leupold one may be the way to go--although I like the slik mini pro as well. Other suggestions welcomed.
Thanks guys.

that's funny, I just logged off their site. i think i'll go in and check their stuff out in person--its irght across the river. Hell I'll wait until the scope shows up and really test out the tripods before buying.

Go to www.precisionriflesolutions.com they have the smaller table top tripod like Basra suggested and a medium weight tripod that will go from prone to standing in a compact light package. If you need something specific I am sure they can get the model, but I believe that both thier tripods have quick detach plates so that you can use it for optics or their shooting cradles which aren't too shabby either.
