I'm taking the optics off my AR-15, moving it to a new hunting rifle. I bought a set of Troy folding sights today. Where do I mount them on the rail? Is the object to mount them as far apart as possible?

Make sure you measure the right and left side from the front to the back to make sure they are square. With all kidding aside like stated above it is that easy.

^^ What they said...just that simple! ^^

Also, if you plan on them staying on the rifle without needing to remove/reinstall them frequently...I recommend a little blue loctite on the threads for the cross-bolt. Keeps them from working lose under fire/with heavy use so that once they are mounted and sighted in they are GTG no matter what.

I ended up getting a Larue mount and an Eotech site and use them in conjuction with the troy, got to love a good cowitness setup.

Yep. You want the front and rear sights as far apart as possible because the longer sight radius allows the human eye to focus on the front and rear sights more easily, this in turn reduces the chance of front/rear sight misalightment because the sights aren't "fuzzy" and out of focus.
