Some nice builds on here who are you guys using for your Model 70 work?

I want a shooter that will get used so not going for any type of historical accuracy but more an homage to an iconic rifle with modern upgrades.

Planning on a McM Winchester Marksman or HTG, Medium Palma or Sendero barrel and USO ST-10 Ergo EREK and M40 windage (already have it).

Shot alot of 06 in hunting rifles and older military rifles but didnt give much thought to reloading it for performance. Seems that it can be safely loaded to outperform 308. Looking for opinions on that or suggestions for alternate chamberings in long action standard bolt face calibers.

Might shoot a few matches for shitz and grins but primarily just for target shooting and a Hunting rig.

Jim Kobe in Bloomington MN did my last one. It was sub moa when I used Nosler bullets...and of course "did my part".;) Believe it or not, it was actually in a .257 Wby. complete with the loooooong Wby throat.

I don't know if he is still doing it though.

I can pretty much tell a miss when the shot breaks. Any trying to time the turn of the tag in hopes it will be face on when the trigger breaks results in a miss. You have to wait until it is really face on and your patience will either give you a solid hit or at worst a glancing blow or a notch on the edge. Pretty good wind today. I was hoping for an evening calm, you know that period when your fishing and the lake goes from all ripples to a flat mirror. Didnt happen.

Don't discount the ol 06. My 10 twist on a bighorn hammers the 208 ELD-m one hole at about 2800 and I haven't yet gotten to load development with lapua brass and the new powders like rl26 or anything.

I have no timeline as this is going to be a passion project as funds allow for such things.

Sixfivesavage thats an impressive load and exactly the type of insight I was looking for.
