Hello all. Trying to help my buddy out and get him back into the hunting scene. He has a Rem 700 ADL .300WM bone stock factory (unmodified), and really doesn't care for the punishment for a hunting rifle anymore. He wants a .30-06, preferably between 6-7 pounds without scope. He's old school and I can't pry him away from that 700. He won't even consider a new factory rifle.

What would it take to turn that .300WM into a .30-06? I understand a new barrel chambered in .30-06 is a must. And I understand the bolt face is different also. But can the existing bolt be modified to accept the .30-06? Or, can a new after market bolt for the .30-06 fit into a Rem .300WM action?

Of course I will recommend that the action be trued while the barrel is off, and eventually skim bedded...etc. (typical accurizing stuff).

Thoughts please. And I understand easiest may not be cheapest, but I wouldn't mind hearing both so he has options.

Thanks in advance.

Bill

I understand what you are saying Neo, but I promised to load for him because I have a ton of .30-06 stuff and want to squeeze every but of accuracy out of the rifle as I can. If I can't give him confidence in the rifle and load, I'm afraid he will never hunt again. He's pretty set on .30-06 and I have several powders on hand to load reduced for.
