I'm pretty much over 700's but I've got a yen to put a low buck 308 together specifically to launch cast boolits at sub sonic velocities. In the world of subs stabile heavy projectiles are king in my opinion. My question; What is the fastest twist I can use with cast bullets without "stripping" the lead out in the grooves in the barrel? Opinions, practical suggestions, and wild-ass stories of pending mayhem are welcome. S.

I run 230 grain lead in a 300 win mag. Barrel is a 1 in 9 twist. Don’t have the velocity with me, running it over 13 grains of red dot. Shoots very well.

To my admittedly Bourbon fueled pea brain that would be either side of sub. at my DA. Really curious about your velocity. What mould are you using for the 230's?
