Got a idea for a 30/06 shooting the 220 sierra on down to 168 grain. Barrel will be a heavy contour and about 26 inches long. Will the standard 1-10 get me out to 1000 or should I go to 1-9 to be on the safe side? 1-9.5? Might shoot some heavy Berger VLDs also.

10 twist works for the 300 win mag, so I don't see why it wouldn't work for the ought6. You could ask the barrel maker for their recommendation when you order. They should know best.

Im having one built right now, 1 in 10 twist is the way to go, I plan on eventually slingin some 208 amaxs down range w/ it. Right now I have a few hundred 168 MK's so those will go down the tube first.

I shoot the 208's from my 30-06 without any issue in a 1:10t 26" barrel and they're stable and easily supersonic to over 1400y.

I'm running a Rock 1-11.25 twist on my Patriot Arms 30-06 & it will shoot anything I throw into it. It's not picky at all!!

1:10 twist should get the job done up to and including 220gr loads. You could probably get by with a little slower twist if you really wanted...but I'd stick to the 1:10.

My .06 has a 1-10 twist and it run great out to 1000 with the 200gn Match Kings. I have a box of 208 A-Max to try out next.
