The Left (at least the "progressive" wing) would be fine with breaking up the tech giants. The Right reflexively protected the tech companies because they were big businesses.

I think the logic goes something like "Clinton tried to break up Microsoft, and we don't like Clinton, and so even though it's now obvious that Bill Gates is a special kind of evil, we're sticking with the stance we took 25 years ago because that what we do."

Trump could have addressed this problem with a combination of the Justice Department's use of existing laws and working with Congress to pass new laws and necessary:

US two-party system is about as two-party as CCP, its just two wings of one party working for the donor class, many politicians are practically elected for life, incumbents per design rarely voted out and seats of power are hereditary kids and/or spouses regularly take the same seat.

When 'conservative' SCOTUS ruled on the Citizens United case it was just a question of when not if your votes become irrelevant.
