Re: UFC 124
I suppose it makes for boring fights, watching one person win all the time. I hate to see anyone do really well at something they train hard for almost every day of the week. It's a shame.
After GSP lost to Matt Hughes, he was working on his armbar defense in the locker room. He wants to be the best fighter in the world, and at 29 years old with a professional record of 21-2, he just may be one of the top guys. He has avenged his only two losses decisively (I still get queasy thinking about Matt Serra's ribs), and nobody in his weight class or the classes around him could beat him technically. He has a great coach, whom he listens to, and plans his fights very strategically to win. And guess what? He does. He's also very respectful toward all his opponents, and that gains anyone my respect in many instances.
I don't consider myself a GSP "fanboy" but I do enjoy watching him fight. I've never seen a fighter who is as strategically and technically sound and well-rounded as GSP, and it's entertaining to watch him deconstruct his opponents with precision. He shot on Koscheck a few times and got stuffed, or Kos got straight back up. So GSP won with boxing. If he'd kept going for the takedowns, it would have been stupid. I suppose MMA should be all flying knees and spinning back-kicks.
