Ok so here is my combo. New Leupy VX-3L 6.5-20x56, Weaver 20 MOA base and TPS low rings, .925. This is sitting on a Savage Mod11 .223 in Choate tactical. I would like to lower it another 1/4" but not sure who makes good "ultra" low rings that won't break the bank??
I am thinking 1/2" rings will work??

any thoughts??

I have 5/8" clearance at the bell, remember this is a lowpro scope with contoured objective over the barrel. I have at least 1/4" clearance on the front of rail and near the eyepiece.

Re: ultra low rings??

Something you can try and quite inexpensive; since you are shooting 223 do you really need a 20 moa base? A set of Warne or Leupy dual bases (zero moa) will bring that scope down to where you need it. Not sure how far you can reach out with that 223, but I am confident you will still have enough elevation to be effective on varmints.

I was in the same situation using a Leupy Mk4 base and a 308 on a hunting rig. The canted base brings the bell down a little bit, but the "tactical" type bases usually are a bit thicker to accomodate a large objective. So the entire scope sits a bit higher than a conventional setup. Your scope is contoured to use standard rings and bases.

Sure I could dial up to 1000 and beyond (in theory) with the 20 moa setup, but my max effective range on game was 700, so I switched to a zero moa base, lowered my scope, better cheek weld.

For $25 its worth a shot and you can prob pick them up at you local big box store. If it doesn't work out, at least you wont be stuck with $200 worth of rings.
