Ultralight Backpack Alcohol Stove

Concur.

I have made a few and have a pro made one as well. I keep them in different bags along with some other goodies. Great fuel, for them is Heet Fuel Additive (any gas station, 7-11, most grocery stores, @ $2.00 and will give you several cooks, this is 99% alcohol vs 70% isopropanol [most common] or 90% found at the pharmacy section of the grocery store - more caloric energy / ounce). They are great (outdoors) except in really nasty winter conditions. In the winter I keep an MSR XGK in the vehicle as well.

A cook will provide some heat to a small space as well.

Little tea, little food, little water - makes being stuck / stranded not quite so SOL. You can fit all the basics in a camping mug with a lid.

Very interesting. But one question I haven't found the answer to was "what other liquid fuels does it burn?"

- Gasoline?
- Diesel?
- kerosene?
- Jet Fuel?

as far as I've seen, whatever you please. you can make these things out of 2 coke cans and a penny using scissors, JB Weld, and a drill. I only run HEET and isopropanol through mine. JP8 works too, but you have to make sure that you cover the food. Had too many JP-8 scented meals to leave the lid behind.

this type of stove is best with only alcohol, most use hardware store variety denatured alcohol, some use heet fuel additive but the methanol is a toxin when inhaled

- one mentioned above: the msr xgk is a wide fuel stove, but does not work with alchohol - Optimus Nova Stove shows diesel but not unleaded motor fuel, common gas additives are also not what you want in stove fuel

for much more than you ever wanted to know about lightweight stoves:
